Religious Moral and Social Education
Project Scubillion The students had to do 20 hours of voluntary work which involved the planning and execution of Project Scubillion . The main objective of this project is for students to practise being of service to the community on their own initiative . Some of these programmes : Class 309 ’ s A Day without Shoes for the Tana Riverlife Foundation , 306 ’ s Garage Sale for Asian Women ’ s Welfare Association ( AWWA ) and 302 ’ s Textbook Collection for a school in Myanmar .
Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday The school ’ s commemoration of Maundy Thursday was held in the Founder ’ s Hall . As Mother-Son Relationship is a module in RMSE , selected students washed their mothers ’ feet in the presence of the school community . The school chaplain , Friar Michael , reminded the students of the love of God for us as Jesus died for mankind the day after and he invited all to serve their loved ones but more importantly , the last , the
lost and the least . On Easter Monday several teachers went around the school community to sprinkle water as an act of blessing .
Level Programmes For the Catholic students in the school , a series of activities was held throughout the school year to help them to deepen their faith . All these activities were compulsory for the Catholic boys in the different levels .
To help the Secondary One students integrate into the Catholic community in SJI , a Lasallian Catholic Youth Camp was organised by the various Catholic societies namely , Legion of Mary , Saint Vincent De Paul and Young Christian Students . A Eucharistic Celebration was held on the last morning for the students and their parents .
The Secondary Two students had an overnight vigil held in SJI from the 31 March to 1 April . There were Stations of the Cross and reflections which were conducted by the Redemptorist Mission Team . The camp culminated in the Palm Sunday Mass where students ’ parents joined in .
There were two retreats for the Secondary Three students to accommodate all of them . Both camps were held at the FMM House of Prayer at Holland Road which was conducted by the Redemptorist Mission Team .
The Secondary Four students had their retreat immediately after their preliminary examinations . Held at the Saint Francis Xavier Major Seminary , they reflected on their four years in SJI and had the opportunity to allow God to guide them through the ‘ O ’ Levels and their lives after SJI . They were also introduced to Christian Meditation to help them in their prayer life .
