Religious Moral and Social Education

The RME ( Religious and Moral Education ) programme underwent a major revamp with the help of all the RME teachers in 1990s . In 2011 the curriculum went through further improvements to ensure it was better aligned to the mission statement of SJI . This led to RME being combined with PSE ( Personal and Social Education ) and is now renamed Religious Moral and Social Education ( RMSE ).

With a dual prong approach , the religious and moral aspect focuses on developing boys into Men of Integrity while the social education aims at developing them into becoming Men for Others . Ultimately , RMSE fulfils the SJI Mission statement .
RMSE teaches students the values of integrity . The boys develop their intrapersonal skills where they learn to Observe , Reflect and Act . Through the Reflective Response Method , they reflect on their daily actions and think about how these actions can affect their relationship with the people in their lives .

This method enables them to be self-aware and take responsibility for their actions . With the profile of the SJI boy reinforced through lessons , students learn how to do Primary Reflection where they learn to accept themselves . Two out of three core Lasallian Values : Faith and Community are emphasised as a result .
Students also develop their interpersonal skills which help them in the way they treat others . Through Secondary Reflection , they contemplate on how they relate to others . The emphasis here is on Service and Community .
Besides the weekly lesson where students understand themselves and their own development , they also benefit from the different programmes held in the school .
Morning Assembly The daily morning assembly allows students and staff to start the day by remembering God ’ s presence in their life . Daily reflections are led by students and this helps the SJI school community to reflect on different aspects of their lives , in their classes , in their society and in the world that are currently important .

Throughout the five weeks , the students donate food items for charities that have partnered the school .
The Secondary One students were introduced to the plight of the poor and the elderly and they donated food items to the residents of Pek Kio while the Secondary Two students learned about the plight of the physically handicapped and contributed food items to the Handicapped Welfare Association ( HWA ). The struggles and the plight and discrimination faced by victims of AIDS were introduced to the Secondary Three students and their food items went to the Catholic Aids Response Effort ( CARE ).
