letter from the OFFICE OF FRATERNITY AND SORORITY LIFE Dear women of John Carroll University: On behalf of Fraternity and Sorority Life (FSL), I am so excited about your interest in the Panhellenic sorority experience! Being a part of our fraternity and sorority community at JCU is a great way to get involved; you’ll learn more about yourself, take on leadership posi*ons, balance your *me, challenge yourself, and find your “home away from home.” Interna*onal sorority membership transformed my collegiate experience and prepared with the personal and professional skills to be successful aIer gradua*on. It also led me to pursue my graduate degree in College Student Personnel/Higher Educa*on Administra*on. I consider myself blessed and humbled by the extraordinary opportuni*es for me to give back to the FSL community through both professional and na*onal volunteer leadership posi*ons. Because I am a sorority woman, I am the best version of myself as a sister, friend, colleague, wife, and mother. You, too, could be a part of the amazing life*me giI of inter/na*onal sorority membership! Through Sorority Primary Recruitment, you will meet many women who are dynamic, fun, strong, caring, academically excellent, and goal-oriented - many of whom may become your lifelong friends, late-night tutors, leadership mentors, and personal cheerleaders! As you move through the process and discern your choices, I urge you to keep an open mind. Although you may have heard others’ opinions about the differences and similari*es between our sorori*es, what is most important is for you to go into the recruitment process with an open mind and ready to generate your own percep*ons and preferences. The best way to determine the chapters that you would be excited to join, is to engage in meaningful conversa*ons at each chapter’s recruitment events. Open and honest dialogue about who you are and what you value, will lead you to discover what sorori*es (oIen more than 1-2 chapters!) you could see yourself joining. Lastly, be open, be yourself, and ask ques*ons! You never know the amazing connec*ons you will find with all five of our wonderful interna*onal sorori*es. Our sorority community welcomes you and is excited to share with you the power and joy of their sisterhood! Interfraternally yours, Mary Ann Hanicak, Sigma Kappa Sorority, Θϒ ‘91 Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs/Fraternity and Sorority Life Advisor 3
