08.30 – 09.30: Bilingual Students.
Meeting with Gitte Jensen, Coordinator of Bilingual
Students (Newcomers).
They are getting more immigration (25% in this
school) in the last 4,5 years, mainly refugees from
Syria .
At the moment, two models coexist in Denmark; 1)
a two-year (flexible) period in a separate school
until they learn the language (2500 words), 2) Go
directly to ordinary school.
At Sønderskov-Skolen, they are preparing for this
second option. Planning how they are going to
organize, which support they will need (4 or 5
teachers, a translator...)
They’ve got a room for teaching Danish to
newcomers, also some material to be used in the
ordinary class that Gitte has been elaborating these
last years…
Sønderskov-Skolen offers Italian, Arabic and
Albanian after school free lessons.
“It’s difficult to learn a foreign language if you are
not educated in your mother tongue!!!”
9.30 - 10.00 Farewell.
We meet Hayssam Gheith for the last time, saying
goodbye and thank you again, expressing our wish
for future collaboration.
