The school counselor plays a vital role in supporting students ' academic, social-emotional, and personal development throughout the middle school years. Middle school counselors help students:
• Adjust to the challenges of adolescence and the transition to middle school
• Develop organization, time management, and study skills
• Explore their strengths and interests
• Build healthy relationships and resolve conflicts respectfully
• Manage emotions and cope with stress or anxiety
• Set goals for academic and personal growth
• Plan for high school and future success
School counselors also collaborate with teachers, families, and administrators to ensure that every student has the support they need to thrive.
Students are welcome to speak with the counselor for help with personal concerns, peer issues, or just to talk.

The school counselor protects the confidentiality of information received in the counseling process as specified by law and ethical standards. School counselors are to inform the appropriate authorities when a counselee’ s condition indicates a clear and imminent danger to the counselee or others. This is to be done after careful deliberation and, where possible, after consultation with other professionals. The State of Connecticut requires that school personnel, including counselors, report child abuse, child neglect, suspected child abuse to the Connecticut Department of Children and Families.
