Respectful, responsible behavior during drills keeps everyone safe and helps the school respond quickly in a real emergency.
Secure the School
Secure the School will be utilized to counteract a threat coming from outside of the building, or in cases when privacy is an issue, or medical treatment activities require isolation. During a Secure the School all exterior and occupied classroom doors are closed and locked. No one will be allowed to remain outside of the school. Any parents or guardians present outside of the school may be required to leave the school grounds immediately. Once the doors have been locked, only law enforcement officials and authorized individuals will be allowed to enter the school. Students and staff are expected to move to their scheduled classroom.
If a Secure School is announced, staff and students will continue normal class activities. Staff will lock and secure all exterior and occupied classroom doors and entrances in their classrooms.
Students are expected to:
• Remain inside the building until the all-clear is given.
• Continue classroom activities calmly and quietly.
• Follow all staff directions immediately.
• Do not leave the classroom or attempt to go to other areas of the school without permission.
• Avoid using cell phones to prevent the spread of misinformation and reduce distractions.
It is important to stay alert, follow directions, and maintain a calm, respectful environment to ensure everyone ' s safety.
Lockdown
A lockdown is used to handle a threat emanating from inside the building. During a Lockdown drill all exterior doors are closed and locked. Doors to all occupied interior spaces shall be closed and locked. This procedure is used when there is an immediate and imminent threat to the school building population. School staff and students are secured in the rooms they are currently in and no one is allowed to leave until the situation has been curtailed. This allows the school to secure the students and staff in place and remove any innocent bystanders from immediate danger. Once the doors have been locked, only law enforcement officials will be allowed to enter the school.
If a Lockdown is announced, staff will secure doors, turn off lights, cover windows, and move students out of line of sight of door windows.
Students are expected to:
• Follow all adult directions immediately and without question.
