Reset Room
JFK has created a Reset Room as a proactive measure before suspension. Our hopes are that students will have the opportunity to complete restorative practice activities to reflect and learn strategies so that they do not make the same mistakes in the future.
Reset Room Expectations ]
• Attendance and Punctuality o In the event the student is absent from school on the day that the Reset Room is assigned, the student will serve the next school day they are present.
• Preparedness o Students are responsible for completing all missed classwork.
• Behavior Standards o Students will demonstrate respectful behavior toward staff and peers. o Students will refrain from talking, socializing, or disruptive behaviors. o Students will stay seated and on task unless instructed otherwise by the supervising educator.
• Academic Focus o Students will first complete a restorative activity and then any classwork provided by the teachers or the Reset Room staff. o If assignments are completed, students may engage in reading or other preapproved academic activities. o Students are to seek help from the supervisor educator if clarification on assignments is needed.
• Electronic Devices o Phones are not allowed. o School-issued devices are to be placed on the educator’ s desk and any work provided will be completed on paper.
• Communication o Talking is only permitted when directly addressing the supervising educator. o Students will always use polite and respectful language.
• Respect for the Reset Room o Students will keep the area clean and organized. o Students will be held accountable for maintaining a clean and safe environment.
• Dismissal o Students will remain in the Reset Room for the period unless otherwise authorized. o Upon dismissal, student( s) will make sure the workspace is clean and clear for the next student( s).
