jewish parsha

The torah portion of VeZot Habracha, the final parsha in the torah, is read on simchat torah. The name of the parsha means “and this is the bracha” because in this week's parsha, Moshe blesses the Yiddin before he passes away. Each Shevet got it's own bracha, just like when Yaakov blessed each Shevet on it's own.
Reuven is blessed with life, Yehuda with success in the battles he fights, Levi with serving in the Beis Hamikdash, Benyamin is beloved by Hashem, Yosef is blessed with sweet fruits in his land, Dan with the might of a lion, Naftali with good land and sea, and Asher with olive oil.
After Moshe finishes blessing the Yiddin, he goes up a mountain and Hashem shows him the whole land of milk n’ honey! (Only a true old Aussie would understand that corny joke!) And then, at one hundred and twenty he passes away. He was buried by Hashem and nobody knows where he was buried. The Yiddin mourned Moshe’s death for thirty days. But hope was not lost, for a new hero had emerged between the Yiddin, his name was Yehoshua Ben Nun! (Translation: Yehoshua the son of Nun) And he became the new leader of the Yiddin.
The parsha, and in fact the entire torah, finishes by explaining to us how great Moshe was, not just to Hashem, but also his people.
