that took about 4 hours return. We had previously booked the Argo Tour that took us deep into the park to see Mount Tasman on an 8 wheel all terrain vehicle. This tossed us around a bit but it is fun and worth it. The end of the tour, we hiked up a fairly steep bank about 100 meters that we were all able to handle with some effort. Interestingly our tour guide for this adventure was a Sherpa who had previously climbed Everest. He told us that his cousin did it in less than 20 hours but normally it takes around 3 months to do.

There were numerous other trails to hike on that ranged from quite easy to very difficult. A quick 30 minute walk that revealed a beautiful mountain range, lake and river. We also took a 4 hour return trek where we got close up and personal with Mount Cook and a lake with small icebergs. This hike was a highlight and it was quite an effort.
The drive to Lake Tekapo took only an hour and delivered stunning views of Mount Cook with Lake Pukaki in the foreground. The lupin flowers were in bloom the entire way and brightly colored the landscapes.
