watched their son Nicholas and daughter Grace grow up over the years who are both studying at the University of Western Australia. Peter is an exprofessor at a large university in Florida and he has spent quite a bit of time in America and had some fun in the Bahamas in his early years. His hobby is brewing up beer and spirits in his garage and he does a great job at it and I believe it is a good combination of art and science.

Kerry and Ian Gollow, whom we have known for at least 23 years, have really gone out of their way for us over the years and have been very good caring friends. They have a very large family and we would be invited for many of their gatherings. We were originally great friends with Ian’ s brother Adam and his late wife Pam, but since they moved to Darwin many years ago, we have become very close to Ian and Kerry. They have three fantastic children who have graduated from different universities with degrees in music, physiotherapy and commerce. Ian is a pediatric surgeon and we have spoken many times about some of his routine and difficult cases. Onetime I asked Ian how he does surgery in such small pre-mature babies as Ian has quite large hands. He commented that it was easy. He simply opened up the area and took out the organs, worked on them and stuffed them back in! One of his cases stood out over the years and it was a child born without an esophagus. Ian had to cut out some small intestine and use this as the esophagus. My thoughts at the time were that the poor baby would have very bad breath forever!

Pam and Rod Mathers have been our friends literally since we moved to Perth, 26 plus years ago. Rod is a mechanical engineer who has helped Luke, as previously mentioned with heating his water bottle in a power outage using his oxyacetylene torch and in one of his school projects where he needed to build an expansion bridge out of balsa wood that was capable of holding a particular weight. Frequently, we would all go out for a spicy meal together and Rod and I have played golf for years together, in all weather conditions, and we are now about the same handicap. Rod restores Jaguar cars and at any given time he has about 5 Jags that he is working on at any given moment. He has the most amazing collection of vintage cars and he was the president of the Jag club in Perth for many years.
