Plenary Speaker
Dr. Philip Vaughter
Dr. Philip Vaughter is a scientist who studies ecology, political science, sociology and statistics. He joined the Education for Sustainable Development Programme at the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) in June of 2015.
Before joining UNU-IAS, he worked as a research fellow at York University in Canada. He focused on analyzing the synergies and obstacles in linking local, regional, and national education policies with UN policy objectives and also investigated the role of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
He gave a presentation in the opening ceremony of JEMUN 2019, he talked about climate change and some agreements trying to solve that issue. Climate change is threatening life around the world, but we are the cause. The rise of sea level and many heat events like wildfires and droughts are caused by climate change. In fact, in 2018 in Chile, the wildfire occurred. It was the worst fire in Chile's modern history and about 1000 hectares of forest were destroyed in 24 hours. To add to his messages, the remainder of this article will focus on energy and climate change.
