MCKENZIE
LEBALL !! I ’ m a native Oregonian , growing up in Southeast Portland and my husband and I raised our three children there as well . I worked as a nurse for 40 years and I ’ m now enjoying being retired .
Colleen McKenzie : I moved to Charbonneau with my husband in August 2012 and joined the tennis club shortly thereafter . I played until an injury prohibited me from playing tennis . I learned to play pickleball in the summer of 2019 and was excited to discover that I could play with my injuries that kept me out of tennis . I hope many , many Charbonneau residents will take the opportunity to try playing pickleball and join our friendly , social group . I am honored to be a member of the Charbonneau Pickleball Board .
Janet Beer : Janet Beer has only been playing pickleball for a couple of years but has already caught the tournament bug . She
and her spouse Don have played a number
BEER of events in both Oregon and California with some bronze metals to show for it . This year ’ s goal is to get a silver . She volunteers as the Vice-Chair and Treasurer for the Pickleball Club .
Ken Teunon : I retired in 2009 after
TEUNON a career working in the health / life insurance industry . I retired as a senior vice-president from an international consulting firm where I worked with large employers assisting them with their employee benefit programs . In 2008 my wife and I moved to Charbonneau after living 35 years in Tualatin . I have been a member of the Charbonneau Tennis Club for many years ( long before moving to Charbonneau ). I started playing pickleball about 13 years ago starting with visits to the Palm Desert . Before pickleball was available in Charbonneau , I played at Wilsonville Park . I was a member of Charbonneau Country Club ’ s pickleball sub-committee that started in 2020 . I also served on the second sub-committee that worked with consultants reviewing possible enhancements and / or amenities for Edith Green Park . I continue to work with the current pickleball committee ( board ). For the last 12 years I have been involved with my local HOA . I ’ m currently Chair of the Village Greens Circle Neighborhood committee as well as on the Board of Village Greens Owners ’ Neighborhood . I joined Charbonneau ’ s Golf Club Board this past year where I serve as the liaison and board member to the Charbonneau Village Center Condominium Association .
Nick Garrow : Nick and his wife Kerry are both Portland natives , raised their kids in Happy Valley and

• Remodels • Generators
• Lighting Additions moved to Charbonneau in 2014 . He started pickleball in 2018 with the strong encouragement of a neighbor and , like most people , quickly became hooked . Nick also serves on his HOA board .
Steve Ryan : Beth and I moved to Charbonneau in September of 1976 . We were both a
RYAN part of the tennis club when it was formed in 1979 . Through the ’ 80s and early ’ 90s , I was part of the Tennis Board , leading it a couple of times during that period . I helped develop , with the board , the management and operations of the tennis club . A big part of this was recruiting new members , plus making sure the members were happy with their experience . In 1984 the bubble came down during a cold winter . It took approximately one year for the new structure to be built . In the early ‘ 90s we looked at our budget and found we could build the viewing area and could enclose the bathrooms . We were able to borrow the money and make the payments , and this was a catalyst for increasing our membership .
My experience with pickleball is about three years . Playing tennis with my wife Beth was our only sport outlet together . When she had her shoulder surgery , tennis was no longer an option . When pickleball got started in Charbonneau , this was a great sport for my wife and I to play together . I have history with the tennis facility and with Charbonneau . I believe this experience will help me contribute to the growth and success of pickleball in Charbonneau .
