On the horizon
From Feb . 20-21 , we will offer the AARP Smart Driver classroom course . This is a two-day , six-hour course offered in the afternoon in the Activity Center . The course costs for AARP members and $ 25 for non-members . Call the CCC office at 503-694-2300 to reserve a spot . Upon completion of the course you ’ ll receive a certificate and you may be eligible to receive an auto insurance discount .
WilsonvilleSTAGE will perform “ Come Back Little Sheba ” the first two weekends in March . This story centers on an emotionally remote recovering alcoholic , Doc , and his dowdy and unambitious wife , Lola . They face a personal crisis when they take in an attractive young lodger . The New Year ’ s Fundraiser was a success and your generous support of this project will move the community closer to the goal of bringing this spectacular piece of art for all of Charbonneau and surrounding communities to enjoy .

Some history : Our accomplished local historian , Rosemary Ricken , provided some history to share with you : Sacajawea is known as the wife of Toussaint Charbonneau and mother of Jean Baptiste Charbonneau , nicknamed Pompey . Sacajawea has emerged as the dominant historical figure . She was born about 1878 of the seminomadic tribe of Shoshone Indians whose activities centered in today ’ s Lemhi River Valley , Idaho . She contributed a great deal to the Lewis and Clark Expedition , especially after finding her brothers , who were key in making it to the Pacific Ocean . Sacajawea ’ s knowledge of edible berries , roots and plants , which she collected for food and medical use , contributed other diet and health of the men . We know Sacajawea did not guide Lewis and Clark to our community of Charbonneau , but she does remain a relatively “ local ” historical figure . In later years , Pompey returned to the Pacific Northwest after being adopted by Clark and receiving an excellent education back east , funded by a benefactor .
Future events being planned
The committee is working hard to bring interesting and fun fundraising events in January , February and March , for example . We are working with corporate sponsors and local businesses , and exploring applying for some grants , to help
