Upstairs Bedchamber

I
n January 2018, we changed the interpretation of the large
upstairs bedchamber from James and Dolley’s chamber to a
guest chamber. This interpretation is supported by guest accounts
as well as research on bedroom use. In our interpretive period,
the finest bedchambers in houses were reserved for guests. The
accessories in the room have been shifted to illustrate this and
show activities that guests described doing in their chambers at
Montpelier, including taking tea.
