his room, in the self-guided portion of the House, was
furnished in January 2018 to show how enslaved domestic
servants would change it over after a large number of overnight
visitors. This room both illustrates how the Madisons were able to
accommodate up to 25 overnight guests and gives enslaved workers
an active presence within the House.
