ADOPTING AIR CONDITIONING AS
SUSTAINABLE SOLUTIONS
Problems such as climate change and changing
demographics are presenting our advancing
global society with many challenges. The Daikin
Group aims to contribute to the realization of a
sustainable society through business activities
with new values.
Through our business activities, we provide
healthy and comfortable daily lives while at the
same time contributing to energy efficiency
and the reduction of greenhouse gases.
Air conditioners consume large amounts of
electricity, and the fluorocarbons they use
as refrigerants deplete the ozone layer and
contribute to global warming. Particularly in
the rapidly developing economies of emerging
countries, growing demand for air conditioners is
expected to have an increasingly severe effect on
climate change.
The Daikin Group is focusing on alleviating the
effect that products have on climate change
through refrigerants with low global warming
impact and energy-efficient technologies.
In addition, we strive to reduce emissions
of greenhouse gases during production and
transportation, and we recover and destroy
fluorocarbons during all stages from production
to final product disposal.

The new facility will function as the core base
for technology development of the globally
expanding Daikin Group.
Daikin is building the world’s No. 1 technology
center with core technologies that includes
inverters, heat pumps, and fluorochemicals
through the collaborative creation of innovation
inside and outside the company and will leverage
new and advanced technologies to expand
business with differentiated products and create
new value and business opportunities.
The TIC facility is located in a six -floor building
covering 49,000 m2 floor spaces with an
investment of approximately 38 Billion Yen
employing 700 people. TIC will help Daikin
accelerate implementation of “collaborative
creation” on a global level through alliances
and collaborations with various companies,
universities, and research organizations. Daikin
already promotes comprehensive alliances with
Kyoto University, Osaka University, and Nara
Institute of Science and Technology and joint
research and development with home builders,
manufacturers of electrical appliances and
materials, and architectural firms.
To achieve this, a variety of design innovations
were incorporated in the TIC office and laboratory
areas to promote collaborative creation for
engineers to overcome barriers. The building
uses Daikin Technologies to achieve zero energy
building aiming at 70% energy reduction with
laboratories supporting core technologies.
