Many students involved in band and choir have been busy preparing for the Illinois Music Education Association Fall Festival auditions. The IMEA Fall Festival will be held at Olivet Nazarene University’s Centennial Chapel on November 19 at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon.
Iroquois West students, Jenessa Salazar, Yanet Rizo, Zane Eldert, Lucas Alvarez, and Kendrick Ali, will join students from other schools around the state to form the IMEA choir. This choir will sing the songs: “Stand Together”, “Three Contemporary Latin Settings”, “And the Glory of the Lord”, “Africa”, and “Born Like the Pines”.
Several IW students auditioned for jazz and concert band, however, eighth grader Connor Taylor was the only student accepted as a member of the IMEA jazz band.
Lucas Alvarez answered a few questions about the audition. When asked about how he thought his audition went, he stated, “Well, I think I bombed my minor scale. I sang that one wrong, but singing the song selections went pretty good.” He also auditioned last year and he said, “I was more nervous last year because I
was in seventh grade. It was a brand new thing, and I had never auditioned before.” Lucas would like to tell future choir members interested in auditioning for ILMEA to always work at it and know that if you make it in it is a really good experience. Lucas will be auditioning next year in high school.
Congratulations to everyone who was accepted for ILMEA and enjoy your Fall Festival!
