Fannie May Fundraiser

By Samantha Sigler

On November 4th IWMS kicked off the Fannie May fundraiser. The school has been doing this fundraiser for 17 straight years. At first, just the 8th grade participated, but in 2011 the 7th grade was added to the fundraiser. The fundraiser was introduced as a school wide event in 2012.

In the first years of this fundraiser, approximately $5000 was earned each year. However, last year’s school wide total was $12,000. The school’s goal for the 2016-2017 year is $15,000.

IWMS is hoping that all students get involved with this fundraiser as the money raised helps to improve the school. It goes to so many different things. The money from this fundraiser pays for charter buses for field trips, class picnics, and may other beneficial items for the students.

Iroquois West would like to thank Mike and Joyce Ruff from Mike’s Candy Shop for making this fundraiser possible.

New Look

By Ellie Schunke

Iroquois West Middle School has recently updated its look with some new Items. The

school has acquired a new table and set of chairs along with a rug for the conference room that “helps to invoke Raider pride” according to Mr. Ehmen. New tables and televisions for the lunch room have also emerged Mr. Ehmen says that these tables “make the lunch room look bigger, cleaner, and are easier to move and take down.” He also noted, “The two new T.V.’s in the lunchroom are to provide students with a more comfortable place to eat lunch and get caught up on sports and current events.” Mr. Ehmen thinks that all of these things were necessary purchases, but believes that the best new item at IWMS is the new sound system for the gymnasium. He indicated, “When we would host concerts and sporting events, the sound system was embarrassing. Now we have another reason to be proud of our gym.” When asked what item he would get for the students that would not necessarily benefit the school, Mr. Ehmen replied, “A pizza buffet for the lunch room!” Overall, his goal for the new look was to please people in our community that visit the school.
