Cross Country Earns 15th in State!

By Clayton Leonard

The 2016 speedy Raiders had great year! The Raider cross country team had some big wins. In the CC Invitational, Raider Invite, St. George Invite, KCC Invite, and Sectionals the Raiders consistently placed either second or third. The biggest accomplishment for the team was earning fifteenth place out of twenty-seven in state. A major challenge for this year’s Raiders was jumping up to 2A instead of 1A. Big improvement came from going against larger clubs and the Raiders’ determination to run in the state meet.

Art Club

By Kiernan Tammen

There are many new things in school this year. New faces, new cafeteria accessories, a newspaper, and now an art club! In an interview with the art club supervisor, Mrs. Sattler, the reason IWMS started an art club was revealed. “Ms. Fink and I had students who are artistic and had no outlet for their skills,” Mrs. Sattler indicated. “There were no art classes even though we had music and sports; there was a gap.” The IWMS Art Club has created a great opportunity for students with artistic ability.

It was incredible to the instructor how many students joined the club. “About 40-ish students signed up, so they have been meeting at different times. So far only eight grade has had meetings,” said Mrs. Sattler.

According to the instructors, the students’ talents haven’t even been revealed yet! The students have been learning their fair share of technique, but that’s all they’ve been doing. “They have been very serious about it,” shared the supervisor. “I hope that their lessons will help them venture out, and that they will use the skills they have learned to make artwork.”
