With a history dating back to the late 1800’s, few brands
can claim the legacy of constant production that Junghans
embodies. The brand was a particular favorite in the early
1900’s and one of the most popular watches of the time.
Today, Junghans is an under-appreciated sleeper brand
that offers a lot of watch for the money in designs that
will look as good in fifty years as they did fifty years ago.
Pictured here, the Meister Chronoscope uses a modified
Valjoux 7750 automatic chronograph movement within
and is an excellent example of the classic design at a very
reasonable price just over $2,000.

Maurice Lacroix is another brand with huge potential for growth as their
watches slowly penetrate the veiled eyes of the big brand addicts. If you
can put aside prejudices based on unfettered marketing budgets and
compare the actual assets of a given watch, Maurice Lacroix’s Aikon makes
an excellent value argument with a timeless design in a robust Swiss made
watch. Several dial variations of the Aikon are available in a three-hand
automatic with date at $1,990 or an automatic chronograph at $2,990.
