Rose : Silver Star / Life Member
Leesburg , VA – Soror Jacqueline A . Rose became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on December 7 , 2020 . Soror Rose was initiated into the Lambda Psi Omega Chapter in 1991 . She was a 1988 Hampton University undergraduate alumna and held a Master of Business degree from Johns Hopkins University . Most recently as a long-time member of Upper Montgomery County , Maryland ' s Xi Sigma Omega Chapter , Soror Rose served dutifully on several committees and in various offices including anti-basileus , grammateus , fundraising committee chairman , health committee co-chairman , and HBCU For Life co-chairman . She also served on the North Atlantic region program committee during the excellence administration . Soror Rose was preceded in death by her brother , Michael , and her nephews , Timothy Jr . ( TJ ) and Jameer ( Me-Me ) Woodley . Those left to cherish her memory are her parents ; Larry and Yvonne Rose , her sisters and brothers-in-law ; Dionne Edmond ( Darick ), LaKisha Woodley ( Timothy ), Traci Tate ( Charles ), and Natasha Rose ( Michael ), her nieces and nephews , and a host of other relatives , sorors , and friends .
Shelby : Pearl / Education Hero / Golden Soror
Saginaw , MI – Golden Soror Lola Shelby , 98 , became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on November 27 , 2020 . Initiated into the Xi Chapter at Eastern Michigan University , Soror Shelby graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and master ’ s in reading . She was one of Saginaw Michigan ' s first Black teachers , and at the culmination of a 44-year education career as a reading specialist and librarian , the Webber Middle School Media Center was named in her honor . Colleagues described her as a motivator of children and a true advocate of the written word . She was a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal church , where she served as deaconess . Soror Shelby was an active member of Eta Upsilon Omega Chapter , and the Top Ladies of Distinction . She was preceded in death by her husband of 63-years , James I . Shelby . Those left to cherish her memory are her sisters , a host of family and friends , and her sorority sisters .
Royal : Librarian / Educator / Golden Soror
Durham , NC – Soror Norma Christine McCoy Royal became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on December 19 , 2020 . Soror Royal received her bachelor ' s and master ' s degrees in library science from North Carolina Central University in 1954 and 1961 , respectively ; and later received another master ' s degree in library science from UNC- Chapel Hill in 1968 . After graduating from college , Soror Royal pursued a career in education working for over 30 years as a teacher and librarian until retiring in 1983 . For 60 years , Soror Royal was an active member of the Alpha Zeta Omega Chapter , where she served in various leadership roles . She is survived by her daughter , Soror L . Bliss Copeland ; one grandson , Austin Royal Copeland , three nieces and two devoted and long-time friends , Mrs . Myrtle McNeil and Mrs . Ruby Bagley , and a host of loving cousins and friends .
Shepheard : Retired Educator
Thomasville , GA – Soror Lillar Shepheard became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on July 17 , 2020 . She attended Fort Valley State University , Florida A & M University , and Howard University . She taught in the Colquitt County School System for 36 years . She was a member of Grant Chapel A . M . E . Church , where she served on many levels , including serving as president of the Ministers Spouses and Widows Alliance of the Episcopal District . Soror Shepheard was active in the community . She was a member of the Women ' s Federated Club of Moultrie and the Colquitt County Planning Commission . After being nominated by Lambda Xi Omega Chapter , Soror Shepheard received the Educational Enrichment Community Service Award during the 64th South Atlantic Regional Conference in Atlanta . Cherishing her memory are Dr . Sharnn Shepheard ( Alison ) and Dr . Cedric Shepheard ( Nadine ).
Sandle : Educator / Case Worker
Chester , PA – Tau Delta Omega ’ s Soror Gwendolyn Victoria Sandle became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on November 16 , 2020 . Soror Sandle , attended Shaw University where she became a proud member of the sorority . She transferred to North Carolina A & T where she met her husband , Nolan Sandle . She and her husband raised two daughters . She completed her education at Cheyney University with a degree in English studies . She was a member of Sanctuary of the Open Door in Philadelphia and held positions in many ministries . She continued her career as an educator and case worker for the Department of Welfare until she retired in 2018 . She enjoyed her family , friends , sorority , and church .
Simpson : Social Worker
Hinesville , GA - Soror Patricia Speed Simpson became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Simpson received her Bachelor of Education degree from Savannah State University and later her masters . She was a retired social worker with 20 years of service with the State of Georgia , Department of Family and Children ' s Services . She was a member of the Greater Friendship Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star . Soror Simpson was an active and devoted member of Nu Rho Omega Chapter where she was initiated in 1986 . She served as grammateus and was on several committees . She was an intelligent , witty and kind person with a spunky personality . She leaves her mother , Marion Walton Speed and two daughters , Stephanie Simpson and Legacy Soror Arielle Simpson Brooks to cherish her memory as well as a host of other family , friends and sorors .
