Lovelady : Principal / District Administrator
San Antonio , TX – Soror Joyce Marie Haywood Lovelady became an Ivy Beyond the Wall in 2020 . She joined Alpha Tau Omega Chapter in 1966 and served on and chaired numerous committees and held various leadership positions . She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Texas Southern University and continued her studies at the University of Texas at Austin and Our Lady of the Lake University , where she received a master ’ s degree in extended studies in science with dual certifications . She dedicated over 30 years of service to the San Antonio Independent School District where she held various roles including science teacher , principal and district administrator . Soror Lovelady was preceded in death by her daughter , Nan Delia Haywood , and her husband , Glenn Lovelady . She leaves to celebrate her life , her younger sister , Martha Ann Brown ; daughter , Natalie Dawn Haywood ; son , David Norcell Haywood ; daughter-in-law , Lelah Moseley-Haywood , grandchildren and a host of other family and friends .
Madgett : Retired Professor Emeritus / Poet Laureate / Diamond Soror / Life Member
Detroit , MI — Diamond Soror Naomi Long Madgett became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She attended Virginia State University where she was initiated into Alpha Epsilon Chapter . In 1946 she moved to Detroit and her service continued in Alpha Rho Omega Chapter . Her influence in education touched many Detroit Public School students , as well as students attending various local colleges and universities . As a publisher and editor , she produced more than 90 books and develop countless poets . Soror Madgett was named Poet Laureate of the City of Detroit in 2001 . The board of directors of the Lotus Press commissioned her life size sculpture that permanently resides in the Charles H . Wright Museum of African American History , was the recipient of the Kresge Eminent Artist Award . She joined Plymouth Church in 1906 and served for many years as their historian . Soror Madgett is survived by her children , Jill , Harold , Gerald , Lenora , Sherilyn , and Kathryn ; five grandchildren , six great-grandchildren , two goddaughters , many nieces , nephews , and friends .
Manson : Educator / Silver Star / Life Member
Havre de Grace , MD – Soror Betty Jo Manson became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on December 2 , 2020 . She received her bachelor ' s degree in education from Morgan State University , and her master ' s in education from Coppin State University . She taught high school English literature in the Harford County Public School system before retiring in 1997 . Soror Manson was initiated in Xi Delta Omega Chapter in 1986 and served in many leadership roles , including grammateus , program , and membership committees . She was an active member of the Black Youth in Action and the Order of the Eastern Star . Soror Manson was a silver star soror and life member of Xi Delta Omega Chapter . Her husband , Ernest D . Manson , preceded her in death . Soror Manson was a wife , mother , grandmother , and sister . Cherishing her memory are her brother Sherman Hawkins and sister-in-law Soror Yolanda Mock Hawkins , her daughters , Soror Kellorin ( Kelly ) Lanier and Shelley Johnson , and her granddaughters : Kamryn and Kendall Lanier and Jaillin Johnson .
Martin : Educator / Administrator / Silver Star
Baltimore , MD - Soror Marcia Martin became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on May 23 , 2020 . Soror Martin was initiated into Epsilon Omega in 1988 . She graduated from Morgan State University and became an educator in the Baltimore City Public School System . She remained with the school system for over four decades retiring as an administrator . Soror Martin served on several committees in Epsilon Omega Chapter , including the foundation . She served as the Ivy Leaf ® reporter and at the time of her death , she was the chairman of the Literary Pearls Book Club . Soror Martin leaves to treasure her memories , her only child , Soror Sherry L . Martin ; brother , Magistrate Judge Henry V . Carr III ; cousins ; sorority sisters , and a beautiful community of lifelong friends .
Massey : Educator / Diamond Soror
St . Louis , MO – Soror Juliette McCauley Massey , 97 , became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on December 28 , 2020 , in St . Louis , Missouri . She enrolled in Howard University and received a master ' s degree in home economics . While at Howard , Soror Massey was initiated into the Alpha Chapter and was honored at the 2016 Boule in Atlanta for being a member over 75 years . Soror Massey became a life member in 2020 . She was a dedicated educator and taught at Miles College in Birmingham , Texas Southern University in Houston and Lincoln University in Jefferson City , MO , before moving to St . Louis and joining the St . Louis Public School ' s as a home economics department head at Soldan High School . Soror Massey leaves to cherish her memory , two sons , Dr . William Massey and Richard Massey Jr .; her nephew , Bryant Lowery and the Bouie family including Charles ( Amber ) Bouie , Carol ( Gilford ) Jemmison , and Rose Bouie .
Mayfield : Educator / Silver Star / Life Member
Bloomfield Hills , MI – Silver Star Soror Oweda Mayfield became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She earned her bachelor ’ s degree from Fort Valley State University and received a Master of Education at Wayne State University and specialist in education at University of Detroit . She was a retired special education teacher for over 30 years in the Pontiac School District . Soror Mayfield was a life member of 46 years with Theta Lambda Omega Chapter in Pontiac Michigan . She served as grammateus , chairman of the debutante scholarship cotillion , nominating committee , bylaws , AKA teens and risk management . Soror Mayfield enjoyed life and wrote and directed plays for churches , senior citizens and many other events in the community .
