Caples : Educator / Life Member / Golden Soror
Moss Point , MS – Soror Norma Fay Harvey Caples was initiated into Gamma Omicron at Tougaloo College in the spring of 1950 . While at Tougaloo she earned a Bachelor of Science in home economics . She also attained a master ' s degree in elementary education from Tuskegee Institute . As an educator she left an impact on the students and families in her path . She was a dedicated servant at Union Baptist Church of Pascagoula . She held the honor of being the only female to hold a trustee position and the eldest member at Union Baptist Church . Soror Caples helped charter Theta Zeta Omega Chapter on May 15 , 1965 . As a charter member , her service to mankind never wavered . She was an active member for over 60 years . In Theta Zeta Omega , Soror Caples served as the 5th president , membership chairman , and area V cluster coordinator . She leaves to cherish her memory , her legacy granddaughters Sorors Courtney Caples-Tate and Whitney Caples ; a son , granddaughter , greatgrandchildren , nieces , nephews , and a host of relatives .
Carpenter : Retired School Counselor / Golden Soror
Baltimore , MD – Leona Williams Carpenter became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Carpenter was initiated in Alpha Delta Chapter in 1945 at Morgan State College ( now university ). She graduated from Morgan with a Bachelor of Science . Soror Carpenter received a Master of Art degree in Guidance-Student Personnel Administration from Teachers College , Columbia University in 1949 . Soror Carpenter transferred into the Epsilon Omega Chapter and remained until her death . She was on the following committees : inspiration opening , salute to outstanding young women , scholarship , and the lifelong learning , in which she was the chairman . Soror Carpenter was married to Harry A . Carpenter , Jr . who preceded her in death , along with a son Harry A . Carpenter , III . She was a member of the DuBois Circle and served as past president , Mondawmin Child Study Group , The Scorekeepers , and Jack and Jill . In 1985 , Soror Carpenter was named Union Baptist Church Woman of the Year . She founded the congregation ' s cultural arts committee . Soror Carpenter leaves to cherish her memory , daughter , Soror Lynn Carpenter Coleman , friends , and Epsilon Omega Chapter .
Carter : Educator / Principal / Golden Soror
Saginaw , MI – Golden Soror Frances Elnora Moton Carter , 92 , became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on November 30 , 2020 . Initiated in 1949 in the Beta Eta Chapter at the University of Michigan , she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Education , and a master ' s degree in education administration . During a 39-year education career , she made history as the first Black principal in the Saginaw Public School district in 1973 . Education was her passion ; community service , her mission ; and AKA was her heart . She was a beloved charter member of both Zeta Beta Omega Chapter , Flint , MI and Eta Upsilon Omega Chapter , Saginaw . She served as chapter basileus , chairman of numerous committees and " Soror of the Year ." She was a member of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church . Her accolades include , Ruben Daniel ' s Education Foundation , Top Ladies of Distinction , the Life Member NAACP , Friends of Claytor Public Library , and Castle Museum . Her legacy is cherished by husband , daughter , Soror Judith Norris , daughter-in-law , Soror Rebecca Carter and numerous family members .
Chambers : Journalist / Golden Soror
Baltimore , MD - Soror Jewel Chambers became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on May 23 , 2020 . She graduated from Western High School and attended Morgan State University where she was an English major studying journalism . Soror Chambers was initiated in the Alpha Delta Chapter in 1963 and graduated from Morgan State University in 1964 . She worked as a journalist at the Afro and Baltimore Times . Soror Chambers was also a professor at Morgan State University . She was a member of Epsilon Omega Chapter and actively participated in the Epsilon Omega Foundation and the chapter ' s history committee . Her passion was reading and sewing . Soror Chambers leaves to mourn a daughter , Sharon .
Chaney : Journalist / Teacher
Los Angeles , CA – Soror Regina Chaney , became an Ivy Beyond the Wall September 25 , 2020 . She received a bachelor and master ' s degree from California State University , Long Beach . She worked as a teacher for more than 30 years in Compton and Long Beach Unified School Districts . She mentored thousands of students in preparation for college . Soror Chaney was initiated into Alpha Gamma Chapter and became a member of Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter , Los Angeles , following graduation . She had a love for the written word . A published author , she believed it was important for youngsters to see their work in print . Soror Chaney said . " they have things they want to say ... poems , plays , stories tumble out .” She leaves to cherish her memory her mother , brother , nephew , along with numerous relatives , friends , colleagues and her beloved sorors .
Chappell-Stevens : Retired Educator / Mayor Pro Tem / Silver Star
Savannah , GA – Soror Kimberly A . Chappell-Stevens became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on July 1 , 2020 . She was initiated into Nu Rho Omega Chapter in Hinesvile , GA and later transferred her membership to Gamma Sigma Omega Chapter in Savannah , GA . She received her BA degree from the University of Georgia , her Masters of Public Administration degree from Savannah State University , and an education specialist degree from Georgia Southern University . She was employed by the Savannah Chatham County Public School system as a teacher , reading specialists , principal and community engagement coordinator . She was active in her church , the community , and in politics becoming a member of the Town of Thunderbolt as an alderman and later mayor Pro Tem . She was a dedicated chapter member serving as an officer and on several committees and was the recipient of the chapter ' s Countess Y . Cox Sisterhood Award and the Evanel Renfroe Terrell Scholarship Award . Soror Chappell-Stevens was a legacy soror and leaves to cherish her memory her mother , Soror Ann Chappell , a son , other family , friends , and her sorors .
