Beta Collaborates with Theta Omega and Chicago Cares to Get Out The Vote
Chicago , IL – Beta Chapter , a Chicago citywide chapter collaborated with Chicago Cares , Theta Omega Chapter and the AKArama Foundation in a Get Out The Vote campaign for the 2020 presidential election that resulted in a record number turn out of over 5.9 million voters in Illinois . Chicago Cares is a nonprofit organization that helps individuals and organizations to provide service that is community driven , sustainable , strategic , and transformative . It is important to note the COVID-19 Pandemic did not hamper Beta Chapter sorors , Soror Keziah O ' Neal and Soror Nicolette Metoyer , from striving and doing things that are worthwhile . The chapter was able to accomplish goals while working virtually , alongside the sponsoring graduate chapter , namely Theta Omega Chapter with the help of Chicago Cares and the AKArama Foundation Inc . Alongside our Graduate Advisor , Caniellia Jarrell and other member of the Theta Omega Chapter , members served as volunteers with the Chicago Cares Texting Bank . Through the use of proprietary text messaging software , over 21,000 text messages were sent to Chicagoans to spread information about voter registration , early voting , and voting by mail . Additionally , resources and information was shared with Chicagoans from underrepresented areas about serving as election judges on election day . Those interested , were directed to a secured application via Chicago Cares .
Alpha Rho Makes Undergraduate History
Pine Bluff , AR – Alpha Rho Chapter at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff finalized a one-year goal and made history by capitalizing an EAF endowment . In the 1990s , Alpha Rho Chapter became the first Greek letter organization to secure a scholarship endowment for students attending UAPB . In 2018 the tradition expanded as Graduate Advisors , Soror Toni McCastle Freeman and Soror Monique Benford issued a challenge to help students attending HBCUs in all of South Central . The challenge was accepted ! A combination of homecoming alumni donations and chapter assessments made it possible . South Central Regional Director , Joya Hayes and Soror Angela Mosley-Monts , South Central ' s EAF representative were elated at the accomplishment ! Alpha Rho would like to acknowledge the chapter officers that managed the donations , Sorors Najallah Johnson , Terica Woods , Makiya Turntine and EAF Captain , Yaisha Freeman . Special gratitude goes to all that made it possible to assist with college costs for students choosing to attend an HBCU in Arkansas , Texas or Louisiana . This scholarship has ensured that the legacy of Alpha Rho will continue to encourage high scholastics for decades to come .
