Johnson Leads Leadership Committee
Soror Rahni Johnson of Iota Xi Omega Chapter in Albuquerque , NM , was named program lead for Securing Top Academic Research & Talent for Historically Black Colleges and Universities ( S . T . A . R . T . HBCU ) initiative at Sandia National Laboratories ( SNL ). There are four HBCUs involved in the program : Norfolk State , PVAMU , FAMU , & NC A & T . Soror Johnson is an alumna of Prairie View A & M University . The Black Leadership Committee ( BLC ) is an employee resource group at SNL that focuses on attracting and retaining African American talent at Sandia . She is a technical business development specialist at SNL and along with other members of BLC , presented S . T . A . R . T . HBCU as a solution to some of the challenges that African Americans face at Sandia when it comes to recruiting and retention . S . T . A . R . T . HBCU will foster specific academic partnerships to increase research collaborations and expose diverse groups of talented students to the lasting impact they can have by working at a national laboratory .
Lucas Named President and Chief Executive Officer
Soror Wonya Lucas of Pi Alpha Omega Chapter in Atlanta , GA , was named president and chief executive officer of the Hallmark Channel ( Crown Media Family Networks ). Prior to joining Crown Media , she was president and chief executive officer of Public Broadcasting Atlanta , where she oversaw Atlanta ' s NPR and PBS stations . She will be charged with accelerating and growing Hallmark ' s TV brand , its strategic direction , day-to-day management and growth of its three linear networks ( Hallmark Channel , Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and Hallmark Drama ), its digital platforms as well as the company ' s subscription streaming service , Hallmark Movies Now . Soror Lucas , who serves on the Peabody Awards ' Board of Jurors and is the former vice chairman of the national NPR board , comes to Hallmark after most recently serving as president and CEO of Public Broadcasting Atlanta , where she oversaw the city ' s NPR and PBS stations .
McLaughlin-Bennett Appointed
Soror Denise McLaughlin-Bennett , a member of Chi Kappa Omega Chapter in Lancaster , CA was recently appointed assistant supervising judge of the Los Angeles Superior Court , North Judicial District . She is the first African American in Antelope Valley appointed to this position . Currently , she presides over the Antelope Valley Alternative Resolutions Court ( ARC ). ARC is a treatment-focused , specialty court which seeks to find alternatives to incarceration . Soror Denise McLaughlin-Bennett has held the title of judge in California Superior Court since 2010 . She received her Juris Doctor degree from the University of California at Los Angeles ( UCLA ) School of Law and her Bachelor of Science degree
from California State University Dominguez Hills . In service to her community , she has been awarded the Bridge Award for her contributions to improve college and career readiness for high school students , the Justice Sunday Award , the Phillip M . Schwarbacher Award for distinguished legal and community service , and the Empowerment Award for collaboration with DCFS , the court and the AV community .
McQueary Smith Elected Delegate-At-Large
Soror Beverly McQueary Smith is licensed to practice in four jurisdictions and taught at law schools in various states . Under Supreme Basileus Carolyn House Stewart , she served as a member of the Internal Leadership Training for External Service Committee for four years . She graduated from the Nellie Quander Leadership Institute and is now a member of the National Association of Parliamentarians . Soror McQueary Smith served as president of the National Bar Association , the oldest and largest association of Black lawyers , judges , law professors , and law students . As a Delegate-at-Large of the ABA , Soror McQueary Smith will serve three years in the ABA ' s House of Delegates , its policy-making body .
Miree-Coppin Appointed Interim Associate Provost
Soror Cynthia Miree-Coppin , PhD was appointed to serve as interim associate provost at Oakland University ( OU ) in Rochester , MI . In this role , she will provide day-to-day administrative leadership , direction and evaluation for all academic activities and faculty affairs at the university . Soror Miree-Coppin is an expert in strategic management with research and teaching accomplishments including publication in the top academic journals , with more than 450 citations . A passionate educator with an abiding interest in developing and deepening student engagement , her teaching record has garnered some of the highest faculty evaluation scores . She is also the recipient of several awards and commendations including the OU School of Business Administration ' s Distinguished Service Award and OU ' s Diversity Equity and Inclusion Faculty Excellence Award . Soror Miree-Coppin is the Great Lakes region representative to the International Economic Impact Study Committee . A charter member of Omega Xi Omega chapter in New Haven , MI , Soror Miree-Coppin currently serves as connections chairman and strategic planning cochairman , and most recently served as the chapter ' s parliamentarian .

Soror Sonerka Mouton is starting her 18th year in education . She received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Houston . She began her educational career in Royal ISD where she served as a teacher and assistant principal at Royal High School . She has also served as an assistant principal in Katy ISD at both the junior high and high school levels . As a former business education teacher , she researched and obtained the first Mac lab for students . During her tenure in Katy ISD , Soror Mouton served on the Bond Committee , Katy Student Run Color Lead , and on the Katy ISD Education Foundation Committee . Soror Mouton is honored to accept the position of principal of Stafford Middle School where she hopes to continue strong academics and inspire sustainable leadership .
