Delta Tau Omega Connects COVID Patients with Family and Friends
Lansing , MI – On January 18 , 2021 , Delta Tau Omega Chapter and the Pearls of Excellence Foundation gifted iPads and cases with docking stations to Sparrow Hospital in honor of Dr . Martin Luther King , Jr . Day of Service . Chapter Basileus , Sharon Rogers , and POEF President , Nettavia Curry , presented these gifts at a commemorative outdoor ceremony to Cindy Watters , the senior development officer of the Sparrow Foundation .
Omega Xi Omega and Pi Tau Omega Donate for World Refugee Day
New Haven , MI – Even during this time of uncertainty , Target 5 and the global impact committee continue to raise the bar by exceeding OXO ' s donation goal ( 38 ) for the pillowcase dresses to little girls in Haiti . Fortytwo beautiful dresses will surely bring smiles to the more than deserving girls in need . In honor of World Refugee Day , Omega Xi Omega joined forces with Pi Tau Omega to donate more than $ 1,000 in donated items to Samaritas – an organization designed to assist refugees in crisis with temporary housing , job training / skill development and other community services . The donations furnished kitchen , bedroom , bathroom , and household supplies for two units .
Omega Xi Omega Hosts Women ' s Suffrage Movement Presentation

New Haven , MI – On February 27 , 2021 , Omega Xi Omega , in partnership with the Charles H . Wright Museum of African American History , hosted a virtual Black History Month program celebrating the 100th year anniversary of the Women ' s Suffrage Movement . This presentation outlined the important role Black women played throughout history , and how it all began with this movement . While researching voting rights , Stacey Deering , PhD candidate , public programs director for the museum and Wayne State University adjunct professor , was intrigued by the role women played in this movement . Her profound interest in this movement led the museum CEO to request that she create an interactive experience that would allow visitors to walk through time and learn more about this fight at the museum . On September 27 , 2020 , this exhibit opened to the public . Stacey shared the struggles Black women faced while fighting for their right to vote , and hurdles faced while trying to obtain and protect the right to vote were unimaginable . Her extensive knowledge and research about Black women ' s efforts to organize their own suffrage protests before they could join the main movement was very informative . The presentation also highlighted how our beloved Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority , Incorporated ® contributed to this movement . More than 80 guests experienced the stories of our brave ancestors , how their actions led to the historic November 2020 presidential election outcome , and how it has motivated our present-day movement .

Guest speaker , US Representative Elisa Slotkin , emphasized the importance of reinvesting in one ' s community and commended the sorority for its caring contribution . Soror Curry told the local news media , " The gift of connectivity , connection and human touch in so many ways has been lost [ due to the pandemic ], so this gift allows those patients who might be suffering in isolation to have connection with family , friends , and other loved ones ." This was the inaugural service project for the newly formed Pearls of Excellence Foundation . Stay tuned ! Sorors have several projects in the pipeline that are expected to have a positive impact on the Greater Lansing community .
