The heart-healthy hustle event demonstrated a low-impact way to help improve heart and lung conditions , build strength and endurance , maintain mobility and balance , burn fat , and infuse cardiac exercise into our daily lives in a fun way . By promoting the blackowned Movement of Dance Studio , the chapter also supported Target 3 : Economic Legacy . To further educate participants on the importance of living a heart-healthy lifestyle Kristian Hurley , American Heart Association representative , brought greetings and provided insightful tips and information . The brief presentation sought to increase awareness of the prevalence of cardiovascular disease in the African American community , and the importance of making a commitment to stand together to improve our health conditions and those around us . Hurley accepted a $ 500 donation from the chapter in support of the association ' s ongoing community health initiatives . Tau Alpha Omega also sought to support its longtime community partner , Redford Interfaith Relief , by soliciting donations from chapter members and event participants . Collectively , $ 766 was raised and donated to Redford Interfaith Relief to assist in advancing their mission of providing healthy food options and clothing to local families in need .
Theta Lambda Omega Celebrates Founders ' Day
Pontiac , MI – Theta Lambda Omega Chapter celebrated its annual Founders ' Day observance with the theme , " Living In Our Legacy : Education , Entrepreneurship , and Empowerment ." The first virtual Founders ' Day was held Saturday , January 16 , 2021 . Over one hundred twenty sorors from the Great Lakes Region and across the country attended the event .
Founders Ethel Hedgeman Lyle and Sarah Meriwether Nutter depicted using Linkedln and Instagram to showcase examples of how they would communicate with the sorority today .
Retired Educator , Soror Minnie O . Philips ; Michigan State Representative , Soror Kyra Bolden ; and Former Second Supreme Anti-Basileus Autumn Kyles were featured on the speakers ' panel , and each spoke on the importance of education , entrepreneurship , and empowerment in their respective fields . An innovative tribute was presented about our founders . The presentation portrayed which social media platforms our founders may have utilized to promote the goals for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority , Incorporated ® and the work to move the organization forward , as if they were with us today . Madam Regional Director , Carrie J . Clark , provided virtual greetings of encouragement to the chapter and attendees . The committee created virtual backgrounds , that also highlighted jewel status , to create the atmosphere of us celebrating together . This celebratory event was a perfect kickoff as Theta Lambda Omega Chapter commemorates its 55th year of service to the Pontiac community in 2021 !
Alpha Omega Supports The Period Poverty Project for Global Impact Day
Cleveland , OH – Year by year , women disperse from their African homelands and migrate to America . Their diaspora unveils consequences of warfare , climate change and global warming on farming , endless poverty , starvation , religious persecution , and abuse . Many enter America as refugees with little support and minimum connections to sponsors or families . Most come only with the clothing on their backs lacking most necessities of survival , including personal hygiene products essential for women ' s health and well-being . Alpha Omega Foundation , Incorporated and Alpha Omega Chapter partnered with Global Cleveland to host The Period Poverty Project . On March 16 , 2021 , via Zoom , the partnership kicked off " A Conversation on Menstrual Equity - Nature vs Nature : Cultural Impact on Natural Experiences " in celebration of International Women ' s Month . Our Foundation Chairman Sandra Brinson provided opening remarks on the significance of menstrual equity and our quest to bring menstrual justice through our Global Impact Day Period Poverty Project event . The panel discussed cultural impacts on the experience of menstruation and on barriers that women face within international communities . On Global Impact Day April 9th , Alpha Omega members signed onto The Period Poverty Project wishlist that Global Cleveland had established on Amazon . They purchased select items for feminine hygiene : pads , tampons , feminine wipes , Tylenol , or Aleve . Alpha Omega members , friends , and family bought over $ 2,140 worth of hygiene products . They were shipped directly to Global Cleveland where its staff distributed these necessities locally to women and girls in this refugee community , aligning with our International Target 5 : Global Impact .
Alpha Sigma Omega Holds Fundraiser to Support CelebrateOne
Columbus , OH – During Black History Month , in support of Target 2 Women ' s Health and Wellness programming , members of the Alpha Sigma Omega Chapter participated in The CelebrateOne , Baby Cheeks Reveal fundraiser . The CelebrateOne initiative focuses on programs to support expecting and new mothers of black and brown families disproportionately affected by infant mortality . Sorors and community members were encouraged to make donations that will go to support a variety of programs that address the most significant factors that contribute to Columbus ' high infant mortality rate in black and brown communities . The chapter collected $ 5,519 of the total $ 10,000 raised , ensuring our most vulnerable citizens celebrate their first birthday . The true winners of this fun competition were our babies !
