Adrienne Booth Johnson and legacy Soror Jayla Johnson launched the Wo Ye Bra program in 2017 as an active effort to help girls stay in school when they have started their menstrual cycles . In rural Ghana , women and girls are not permitted to attend school during their cycles due to inadequate access to sanitary supplies . They resolved to do something by providing reusable sanitary supplies to the villages , so that the girls can continue their education . The program has evolved into a dualpurpose program : First , to create and train women entrepreneurs who make and sell reusable sanitary pads ; second , to help girls stay in school by providing affordable sanitary pads in their respective villages . The program also provides professional training and mentorship for women in West Africa to become seamstresses . Each trainee receives a sewing machine , fabric , sewing tools , start-up capital , in addition to sewing , sales and marketing training . To date , the Wo Ye Bra nonprofit program together with the Phi Pi Omega Chapter and other sponsors have created over 100 women entrepreneurs in Ghana and Sierra Leone .
