Omega Rho Omega Draws Attention to Health Equity Disparity
Henrico , VA – According to the Centers for Disease Control ( CDC ), people in low-income , Black and Hispanic neighborhoods , are less likely to receive CPR from bystanders . Women may also be less likely to receive CPR if they experience cardiac arrest in a public place . To change that narrative , Omega Rho Omega distributed 20 CPR kits to residents in our service areas of eastern Henrico , Charles City and New Kent counties . The kit includes a mannequin , along with written and electronic learning materials making it a reusable resource . Recipients were instructed to pay it forward by passing the kit to others . The recipients also participated in a 10-minute hands only CPR training provided by the Richmond Ambulance Authority . Our goal for Pink Goes Red was to educate community members on the impact of CPR and how it is the difference between life and death . We also wanted to close the disparity gap for our community members , especially women . While the distribution of the CPR kits was the highlight of our heart health initiatives , we also examined best practices for eating heart healthy , as well healing the heart and mind with meditation via Facebook Live . The power of social media allowed the information to be viewed more than 600 times . Awareness facts and practical tips for a happy heart were also viewed on our social media platforms . We ended the week with our Divine Nine Sisters of Delta Sigma Theta , Incorporated , for a " Heart2Heart " workout session .
