from Burma , the Democratic Republic of Congo , and Syria . The chapter provided $ 250 towards one week of groceries for Chapel Hill families through the Hillside Church Food Pantry . Sorors and friends funded $ 750 for culturally preferred healthy foods for the Rogers Eubanks Neighborhood Association Food Pantry for their diverse neighborhood of Burmese , African American , Latinx , and Caucasian families . Care bags of toiletries and cleaning supplies supported 80 households in two Chapel Hill apartment properties . Additional support came from Lincoln High School alumnae , formerly Chapel Hill ' s segregated African American high school . For AKA Caregivers ' Impact Day , the chapter provided 12 family caregivers with meals for four prepared by The Fresh Market , along with a magnetic greeting card and AARP caregiver resource booklets .
Rho Psi Omega Hosts Ballet Class for Target 4 : The Arts !
Charlotte , NC – Target 4 : The Arts ! sponsored a ballet class in partnership with Barre Belle Ballet on February 20 , 2021 . The session was free to youth ages 5 and up which fused ballet movement to poetry from the Harlem Renaissance . The class introduced to some and refreshed others about ballet terminology and technique . The instructor started the class with a warm-up using music from Duke Ellington and other jazz artists in that time period . For the second half of the session , the poem " Dreams " by Langston Hughes was shared . The instructor involved the participants by soliciting their input to choreograph movement to the poem . The collaboration of about 24 attendees , resulted in a beautiful piece enjoyed by all in attendance .

Fayetteville , NC – On Tuesday , February 11 , 2020 North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper recognized African American leaders in education from across North Carolina , two Zeta Pi Omega Chapter members were recognized for their outstanding accomplishments . Soror Lisa Williams ( Mid-Atlantic Regional Music Chairman ) was the 2016 Department of Defense Education Activity ( DODEA ) Fort Bragg District Teacher of The Year . She was accompanied by Dr . Donato Cuadrado , the DODEA MID- Atlantic District Superintendent . Soror Melody Chalmers , was the 2016 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year . She was accompanied by her husband , Major ( retired ) Alexis McClain . The event was held at the Executive Mansion in Raleigh , North Carolina .
Zeta Chi Omega Celebrates Founders ' Day
Alexandria , VA – With the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic , we continue to navigate through very challenging times . Zeta Chi Omega chapter virtually hosted a Founders ’ Day event on January 30 , 2021 with " Powerful Alpha Kappa Alpha Women — Making A World of Difference ," as our theme . More than 177 sorors engaged in the program which showcased singing , dancing , and a violin performance . Also included on the program were videos reflection of our sorority ’ s rich history and an update to our service project , the capitalization of the Lula Lang-Jeter Scholarship Endowment , to honor our Pearl Soror , Lula Lang-Jeter . The keynote speaker was our very own Mid-Atlantic Regional Director , Soror Jennifer King Congleton . She spoke about the contributions that strong , powerful , and talented women of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority are making to society .

Zeta Chi Omega Holds Careers in Foreign Affairs
Arlington , VA – Zeta Chi Omega Chapter of Arlington , VA hosted a widely attended webinar on Careers in Foreign Affairs for over 50 high school and college students in May . The panelists included C . D . Glin , President and CEO of the U . S . Africa Development Foundation ; Sundaa Bridgett-Jones , Director of Communication , Policy and Advocacy with the Rockefeller Foundation ; and Curtis Valentine , Deputy Director of Reinventing America ' s Schools Project . Many of the students were from the Mid-Atlantic region , but students from Tennessee and Texas also participated . The goal of the webinar was to give high school students an opportunity to hear first-hand from minority professionals who have chartered a career in international affairs or have had professional experiences overseas . The panel provided an in-depth discussion on the paths to a career in global affairs and how to prepare . The ZCO global committee recognizes that without family members , friends or mentors in this sector , it is often difficult for high school students to imagine and consider interning or working for a federal agency , non-profit or a private sector company abroad . The ZCO global committee is committed to providing engaging content to the chapter debutantes and other students at home due to the COVID-19 global pandemic .
