Stewart Receives Excellence Award
Soror Carla L . Stewart , Ed . D ., basileus , Theta Rho Omega Chapter in Markham , Illinois , received the 2020 - 2021 Excellence in Teaching Award at National Louis University . This award recognizes faculty who exemplify teaching excellence and commitment to quality instruction that promotes student engagement . Soror Stewart was selected from hundreds of faculty members across the university due to her creative , diverse , and innovative teaching strategies that enhance student learning . She serves as the program coordinator , assistant professor , and advisor for both the master ' s in clinical & school counseling on the Chicago Campus . Soror Stewart holds several professional certifications in the State of Illinois . She is the CEO and lead therapist of CLS Comprehensive Services , LLC Professional Counseling , and Mental Health Consulting Agency . The guiding principle of CLS is " The USE of Knowledge is Power ," and Soror Stewart works to assist both her students and clients to utilize and apply the knowledge gained .
Tarrant Promoted to Senior Vice President
Soror LaTisha Owens Tarrant has been promoted to Senior Vice President , Deputy General Counsel , and Corporate Secretary of PRA Group , Inc . In her role , she leads the corporate and securities legal teams and handles significant transactions and related legal matters . She also advises the senior leadership team and board of directors on corporate governance matters . Soror Tarrant has more than 20 years of experience as a corporate lawyer concentrating in federal securities law , corporate governance , and mergers and acquisitions . Before joining PRA Group , she served as managing associate general counsel for Anthem , Inc . and was vice president and senior counsel , corporate finance , and governance for Amerigroup Corporation . She was also a partner and senior counsel at McGuire Woods LLP . She is a graduate of the College of William and Mary and the University of Texas at Austin School of Law . Soror Tarrant was initiated in the Nu Chi Chapter in fall 1991 and was a Boule member for many years before joining Upsilon Omicron Omega in 2020 .
Thelwell Appointed as Human Trafficking Coordinator
Soror Lisa Thelwell of the Gamma Theta Omega Chapter in Tampa , Florida , was named the Human Trafficking Coordinator for the Middle District of Florida . Soror Thelwell is currently an assistant United States Attorney , prosecuting human trafficking and sex offenses . In her new role , she will be spearheading the Tampa Bay Human Trafficking Task Force , collaborating with federal and local law enforcement , and educating the public about human trafficking . Most recently , Soror Thelwell led the effort to prevent and combat human trafficking in the Middle District of Florida during National Slavery and Human Trafficking month and in preparation for Super Bowl LV .
Thomas Promoted
Soror Sherie Thomas , a member of Delta Epsilon Omega Chapter , has been promoted to Captain in the Omaha Police Department . Soror Thomas began her career with the Omaha Police Department on October 5 , 1998 . As an officer , she worked in the Uniform Control Bureau in all four precincts of the Omaha , Nebraska , area . In March 2003 , she was assigned to the Criminal Crime Prevention unit as a school resource officer then spent six years in the Criminal Investigation
Bureau in the Domestic Violence Unit . Soror Thomas was promoted to sergeant in October 2010 . As sergeant , she worked in the Police Services Bureau , Customer Services Unit , Internal Affairs , Training , and Uniform Patrol . She was promoted to lieutenant in March 2017 . Soror Thomas worked in the Uniform Patrol Bureau in Internal Affairs and the Public Information Office as a lieutenant . In her current role as captain , Soror Thomas will be assigned to the Training and Community Services Section . In addition , Soror Thomas serves as chairman of Delta Epsilon Omega ' s sisterly relations committee .
Tucker Elected Chief of Staff
Soror Lakeeya Tucker , DO , of Chi Epsilon Omega Chapter , is the first African American to serve as Chief of Staff at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing , MI . She was elected to this position by her peers . Her two-year term begins in 2022 . Soror Tucker is a clinical associate professor for MSU College of Human Medicine and College of Osteopathic Medicine . As an obstetrics and gynecology physician , she has conducted extensive research and advocacy around women ' s health . In addition , she holds memberships in many medical societies and actively mentors residents , interns , medical students , and high school students . Within the Greater Lansing community , her service includes the Mayor ' s Racial Justice and Equality Advisory Committee . In addition , she served as the medical director for It ' s a Breast Thing . This local non-profit organization provides funding to breast cancer survivors who cannot afford their out-of-pocket costs . She was one of the physician leaders of a free annual cervical cancer screening program at Alliance OB / Gyn , Pap-O-Rama Saturday .
Umukoro Honored for Women ' s History Month
In honor of Women ' s s History Month , Soror Cynthia Umukoro was celebrated at Nia Fellowship Baptist Church in West Orange , NJ . Although , with a foundation in the church , her father was a South Carolina Pentecostal minister , Soror CJ , as sorors affectionately call her , knew the importance of Christian education and leadership from a very young age . Soror Umukoro , a founding member of 19 years of her home church , was recognized as its first woman Deacon Chairperson . She was also highlighted for her outstanding work in the community . She is a child advocate and educator who regularly works within her local school districts and serves as a foster parent for children in need . She also helps one of our community ' s most vulnerable populations , breast cancer survivors , through Sister 2 Sister Network of Central NJ , where she is on the board of directors . In addition , Soror Umukoro is a Silver Star and Life Member who also serves as Nu Xi Omega ' s chaplain .
Vigee Named First African American President and CEO
Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana selected Soror Voris Roberts Vigee as the new president / CEO . Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana Board Chair Christy Howley Connois stated in their official press release , " Voris Vigee brings all of the important qualities we were looking for in a new CEO : experience in this challenging work , passion for the people we serve , and a lifelong commitment to helping the most vulnerable in our communities to propel us forward into the future . She is also well-known among other local and national non-profit social service and housing organizations . The board of directors is happy to announce Voris Vigee as our choice for President and CEO ." She holds a Master of Nonprofit Administration from the University of Notre Dame ' s Mendoza College of Business . She also has a master ' s degree in business administration and a bachelor ' s degree in psychology .
