Palmer Appointed to State Court
Soror Ashley Palmer of Rho Zeta Omega Chapter in Marietta , Georgia , was sworn in as a state court judge in Cobb County , Georgia , on June 1 , 2021 , after being appointed to the seat by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp . Soror Palmer is only the second African-American to ever serve on the Cobb County State Court bench . Soror Palmer practiced law for 15 years before her appointment , having received her undergraduate and law degrees from Vanderbilt University , where she was initiated into Eta Beta Chapter . Soror Palmer began her legal career as an associate in a large Atlanta law firm , specializing in bankruptcy litigation and securities , corporate and fiduciary litigation . In 2009 , Soror Palmer transitioned to government service , serving as an Assistant Public Defender , an Assistant County Attorney , and a Senior Assistant County Attorney . Soror Palmer hears traffic matters , DUI cases , and other related misdemeanor offenses in her current role .
Parker Named President & CEO
Soror Rochelle Parker is the president & CEO of the Child Abuse Prevention Association . She ensures CAPA ' s fiscal , operations , fundraising , marketing , human resources , and technology strategies are effectively implemented across all segments of the organization . She has led revenue growth and in-kind specialized services from $ 600,000 to $ 2,500,000 in 2021 . She graduated magna cum laude with a BS in financial economics from Fisk University , her MBA in management at Rockhurst University , and a professional fundraising certificate from UMKC . She is currently working on her doctoral degree in business administration and leadership at Liberty University . She is on the board of directors of the Butterfly Literacy Group , Alive Church , and Truman Heartland Community Foundation . Soror Parker serves on the Vision and Planning Team at Canaan Worship Center and is a member of the Mu Omega Chapter as co-membership chairman , Suburban Balance , and the Metropolitan Leadership Institute . Peguise-Powers Elected First African American Superior Court Judge
Soror Tiffany Peguise-Powers was officially sworn in as the first female and first African American Superior Court Judge of Robeson County , NC . She is a double HBCU graduate of Hampton University and North Carolina Central University , earning her Juris Doctorate . She was named Robeson Reader ' s Choice Best Attorney 2012-2013 , 2015 , and 2019 . She received a North Carolina Governor ' s appointment to the Historically Underutilized Business Board in 2017 and 2020 and served as the 2018-2019 chairman of the Robeson County Board of Elections .

Peterson Named Executive Director
Soror Arielle Peterson is the founder and executive director of Primary Hall Preparatory Charter School . Soror Peterson imagined opening her own school since she was a child and made that dream a reality in Buffalo , New York . " I wanted to design a school that would nurture and challenge elementary students to be college prepared . There is no better form of investing in our nation ' s collective well-being than an efficient educational space for children ." Soror Peterson launched her career with Newark Public Schools serving from early childhood to middle school . Soror Peterson holds a BA in psychology from Spelman College and an MA in education administration from Caldwell University . She is currently a doctoral student at Fairleigh Dickenson University .
Poole Appointed to Commission
Soror Sandra Poole was encouraged by another soror to apply for a position with the Elk Grove , California Planning Commission . Her appointment as the first African American woman to serve on the commission builds on the culture and tradition of Alpha Kappa Alpha women blazing trails of excellence . Soror Poole is currently the only woman on the five-member commission . Soror Poole brings over 25 years of experience with state and county government positions , including several executive appointments , along with 34 years of service to the sorority . Her extensive leadership and organizational skills will be invaluable as she works with other commissioners to make critical land-use decisions that affect various areas such as designing , planning , and zoning . Acutely aware of the importance of her work , Soror Poole hopes to be a role model for other African American women , inspiring them to secure a seat at the public policy table in cities and states nationwide .
Pryor-Smith Soars
Soror Nicole Pryor-Smith of Eta Eta Omega Chapter is the founder / owner of Kids on Wings Ed ., Inc . ( KOWEI ), an innovative learning resource for children . Teaching youth through the arts , she uses creative educational tools that make learning exciting and students successful . She makes a virtual or in-person classroom come to life by engaging children in culturally diverse and healthpromoting sessions . An HBCU graduate of Bethune-Cookman University , Soror Pryor-Smith creates opportunities for reflection , collaboration , and achievement and empowers children socially , emotionally , and academically . In addition , she has produced music-inspired resources , including Multiplication Splash , a CD / album targeting grades 3-5 , provided through her Premier Educational Resource Company . Soror Smith believes Christian educators should view teaching as a ministry . Her book , More Than a Job : Teaching Is a Ministry is a testament to her commitment .
Puryear Receives 2021 MLK Award
Soror Leah Puryear was awarded the 2021 MLK Award for outstanding service to the Charlottesville community and designated the first African American woman elected to the Charlottesville City School Board . She is now in her fourth four-year term and serves as the School Board ' s Vice-Chair . She has helped develop and began the implementation of the Charlottesville City School Board Equity policy program , which has received accolades from across the Commonwealth of Virginia as a model equity project to be replicated in other education communities .
