Stanley : Retired Educator / Former Basileus / Pearl Soror
Louisville , KY — Soror Rose Marie Hatcher Stanley became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She graduated from Central High School class of 1951 . Soror Stanley earned a BS from Kentucky State University in 1956 , where she was initiated into Beta Zeta Chapter in 1954 . She earned a master ’ s in urban education from Indiana University and a master ’ s in guidance and counseling from the University of Louisville . Her teaching experiences spanned from Lexington , KY , Cleveland , OH , Butzbach , Germany , to Louisville , KY , where she retired from Jefferson County Public Schools in 1991 . In addition , she taught in the Upward Bound program at U of L . She was the 36th Basileus of Eta Omega Chapter from 1994-1995 and was a First Gethsemane Baptist Church member . Soror Stanley leaves to cherish her memories : daughter , Gail Belinda Smith Lloyd ( Greg ); son , Cleo Kenneth Joiner III ; sister , Soror Pat Adams ( JE ); sisters-in-law , Rosa Hatcher ( Porter ) and Jackie Hatcher ( Robert ), Bryce Charles Garrett , and grandchildren .
Stewart : Retired Educator / Minister / Golden Soror
Meridian , MS – Soror Ethel Ruth Stewart became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on February 18 , 2021 . She attended Alcorn State University , and then she transferred to Lincoln University , where she earned a BA in sociology with a minor in psychology . She was initiated into Delta Delta Omega Chapter in 1963 . She served as chaplain of Omicron Beta Omega Chapter from 1988 to 1992 . Soror Stewart had a passion for education and used her talents to touch many people ' s lives in Denver , Colorado ; Chicago , Illinois ; Del Rio , Texas ; Meridian and Jackson , Mississippi ; and San Antonio , Texas . She received a master ’ s degree in religious education in theology . She traveled to Brazil and Africa to help build infrastructure for education and ministries . She became an ordained minister of the United Methodist Church and pastored at James Chapel United Church . Soror Stewart will be remembered by her daughters Shawne ( Amir ) Stewart-Zakaria , Henri ( Dale ) Stewart-Thurman , and two granddaughters .
Sumo-Mabadeje : Accountant / Unit Controller
Langston , OK – Soror Viola Sumo-Mabadeje became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She graduated from Langston University , majoring in organizational management . Soror Sumo-Mabadeje was initiated into Alpha Upsilon Omega Chapter 16 years ago . She served as a member , and she held offices as membership chair , Target 1 leaders , graduate advisor , Graduate Advisor ' s Council , HBCU for Life , and reactivation chair . Soror Sumo-Mabadeje organized activities for the youth , volunteered her time as an associate youth program mentor , and ministered to women and children in the community . She founded " Fight Like a Sumo " after being a two-time breast cancer survivor . She shared her gift of song in church and all over Oklahoma . She is survived by her husband , Adewale Keji ; father , David Sumo ; three brothers , and many other loving family and friends .
Taylor : Retired Educator / Golden Soror
Dallas , TX – Golden Soror Dollie D . Taylor became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Taylor was initiated into Alpha Xi Omega Chapter in 1967 . She received her undergraduate degree in education from Bishop College and her master ' s degree in early childhood education from Prairie View A & M University . Her education career was at George Washington Carver , West Dallas , and John Quincy Adams , Pleasant Grove , retiring after 40 years . She was a Good Street Baptist Church member for 71 years and served as Sunday Superintendent , president of the Missionary Society , and Credit Union Board Member . In 2015 , she and her husband Carl Taylor moved to Ben Wheeler , TX , to live with their daughter Eunice Cicero and son-in-law Harold Cicero . There were members of Mt . Zion C . M . E . Church . She supported the African American Museum of Dallas and the Billy Earl Dade Middle School named for her late brother-in-law . She was also a member of The Links , Incorporated and Dallas Jack and Jill of America , Inc .
Suggs : Retired Government Employee / Church Leader
Scotch Plains , NJ – Soror Nellie Mae Suggs became an Ivy Beyond the Wall in January of 2021 . Soror Suggs was educated in Mississippi , where she graduated from college . Soror Suggs was an active member of Phi Eta Omega Chapter until her passing . She was a member of St . John ' s Baptist Church , where she served as treasurer , trustee , Sunday School teacher , and coordinator of the women ' s ministry . Soror Suggs served in a variety of leadership positions in local and national Baptist Associations . She was also a member of the American Association of University Women , The Obsidians Civic Club , and the New Jersey Orators . She spent most of her career working for the Federal government and U . S . Department of Homeland Security ( Customs ), where she retired . Soror Suggs leaves to mourn her loss : husband Ronald ; two sons , Robin and Rory ; granddaughters , Alaysha , Jailyn , Tahlia , and a host of family , friends , and sorors .
Walker : Retired Educator / Former City Councilwoman / Charter Member / Golden Soror / Life Member
Americus , GA – Soror Eddie Rhea Walker , became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She was valedictorian of her 1955 Staley High School Class and earned a full academic scholarship to attend Morris Brown College . Soror Walker was initiated into the Gamma Gamma Chapter in 1956 . She also earned two master ' s degrees , Wayne State University and Georgia Southwestern University , and had an educational certification from the University of Georgia . In 1995 , she broke gender barriers on the Americus , Georgia city council . She was also a member of her church . Soror Walker was inducted into the Americus and Sumter County " Walk of Fame " in 2011 . She is survived by her legacy , Soror Fannie Walker Brown .
