Lanett , AL – Pearl Soror Christine R . Simpson became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on February 11 , 2021 . She graduated from Alabama State University , where she earned a BS and MA in English and voice . Soror Simpson was initiated into Beta Pi Chapter in 1951 . She was a 1976 charter member of Lambda Zeta Omega Chapter and served as the first basileus . Soror Simpson retired from Troup County Public Schools after 40 years . She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church , where she taught Vacation Bible School and served as the chairman of the Church Anniversary Program . She was active in the community , as evidenced in her 15 years of service with The Chattahoochee Hospice , a volunteer Pink Lady at Lanier Memorial Hospital , and a volunteer with the Literacy Program of America . She was preceded in death by her parents , siblings , and husband , Howze L . Simpson . She leaves to cherish her memory of two nieces , Soror Danice E . Seay , Blanche Walker , great-niece Jacquelyn Williams , and other relatives , sorors , and friends .

Langston , OK – Soror Wessylyne Alford Simpson became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on November 30 , 2020 , at the age of 90 . Soror Simpson was initiated into the Alpha Zeta Chapter in 1949 . Her time spent in Alpha Zeta laid the foundation for a lifetime of 71 years of service . As an undergraduate , she served as basileus and dean of pledges . Soror Simpson received her BS degree from Langston University and her MS and Ed . D from Oklahoma State University . In her graduate commitment to Alpha Upsilon Omega Chapter , she served as basileus , graduate advisor , tamiouchos , and parliamentarian . From 1986-1990 Soror Simpson reached the pinnacle of her sorority ' s goals when she earned the honor of serving as the 22nd Mid-Western Regional Director . In addition , she received over 200 awards , plaques , commendations , testimonials , tributes from organizations , students , other universities , and an education citation from the Oklahoma State Legislature . Cherishing her memory are her husband of 62 years , James A . Simpson ; daughter , Soror Lynne Simpson-Harding ; son , Michael A . Simpson and other family , friends , and former students .

Ft . Lauderdale , FL – Soror Betty Louise Carter Smith became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She was initiated into Gamma Tau Chapter , Bethune Cookman ( College ) University , in 1951 and became a charter member of Zeta Rho Omega Chapter in 1955 . She remained active for 69 years , holding many positions , including chapter basileus . Soror Smith earned her bachelor ' s degree in elementary education from Bethune Cookman ( College ) University and earned her master ' s degree in education at Columbia University . She served over 25 years in the Broward County Public School System before retiring . She was a First Baptist Church Piney Grove member , where she served in the choir and Missionary Society . Soror Smith is preceded in death by her husband , Robert L . Smith , and her memory is cherished by a daughter , Soror Anitha Smith Williams , son-in-law Darrell Williams , grandson Kamyron Miles Smith Williams , brothers William Manker , Jr . and Edward Green , and a host of other relatives and life-long friends .

Fredericksburg , VA – Soror Pearl Amy Smith became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She earned her bachelor ' s degree in mathematics and a master ' s degree in mathematics and statistics from Virginia State University . Soror Smith taught math at several universities before returning to her alma mater to teach . In 1963 , she was hired as a mathematician for the Naval Weapons Laboratory . Soror Smith was a human-computer , a " hidden figure " for the Navy . She wrote computer programs for the guidance systems of missiles fired from Naval ships . She retired from the Navy after 31 years of service . Soror Smith was a driving force behind the chartering of Xi Upsilon Omega Chapter , where she served as past basileus . Soror Smith was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years , Olie Smith , and son , Dr . Timothy Smith . She is survived by two daughters , Gretna ( Donna ) and Amy ; one son , Thomas ; one grandson , Stephen ; and a host of family , friends , and Xi Upsilon Omega sorors .

Lithonia , GA – Soror Tammy A . Smith became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on March 16 , 2021 . Soror Smith , initiated in Epsilon Beta Omega Chapter in 1996 and became a Silver Star in 2021 . She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance ( Tuskegee University ) along with a master ' s in agricultural economics ( Tuskegee University ) and a master ' s degree in business administration ( Keller School of Management ). Employed with the Coca-Cola Company for 11 years , she served in various roles , including the president of the Black Resource Group . Before her transition , she was promoted to senior manager for employee advocacy . Soror Smith was a member of Tau Pi Omega Chapter for over 20 years , during which she held various offices . She was serving a second term as chairman of the Regional Corporate Partnerships Committee , South Atlantic Region . Soror Smith leaves to cherish her memories , Ollie Smith ( mother ), April Dobbins and Mary Walker ( sisters ), Wendell Smith ( brother ), Amai (" Twinkle in Her Eye "), nieces , a nephew , Godchildren , sorors , and friends .
St . Bernard : Former Basileus / Pearl Soror
Brooklyn , NY – Pearl Soror Emma A . St . Bernard became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on March 5 , 2021 . Soror St . Bernard was initiated into Alpha Iota Chapter , Lincoln University , in 1948 . In 1950 , she earned a bachelor ' s degree in sociology and completed graduate studies at Columbia University . She became a social work administrator and retired from the New York City Administration for Children ' s Services after 34 years of service . Soror St . Bernard was a devoted member and past basileus of Delta Rho Omega Chapter in Brooklyn , New York . In addition , Soror St . Bernard served as president of the Ivy Rose Foundation . Her love of travel took her all over the world . She often traveled with her late sister , Soror Queenie Raymond of Catonsville , Maryland . She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years , Samuel St . Bernard . Survivors include her son , Leslie St . Bernard ; her daughter , Soror Kim St . Bernard , and a host of relatives , sorors , and friends .
