Moore : Retired Educator / Engineer / Charter Member / Life Member
West Ashley , Charleston County , SC – Soror Joyce Eleanor Houston Moore became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on January 15 , 2021 . In 1959 , Soror Moore was initiated into the Nu Chapter at West Virginia State College and remained active throughout most of her adult life . In 1976 , she and 23 other women chartered Lambda Alpha Omega Chapter . Soror Moore also helped charter Omicron Alpha Chapter , the undergraduate chapter that Lambda Alpha Omega sponsors . She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from West Virginia State College ( later reestablished as West Virginia State University in 2004 .) She obtained a master ' s degree in physics for teachers from Purdue University ' s department of physics and astronomy and is a recognized world leader in many areas of theoretical and experimental research . Soror Moore taught high school physics and advanced mathematics . She was an educator at Malcolm X College and as an engineer in Chicago . Soror Moore is survived by her son and daughter-in-law , two granddaughters , one grandson , one sister and one brother , a host of nieces , nephews and cousins , and sorority sisters .
Phillips : Retired Educator / Basileus / Pearl Soror
Opelika , AL – Pearl Soror Yvonne Brown Phillips became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on January 22 , 2021 . She attended Tennessee State University , where she was initiated into the Alpha Psi Chapter ( 1955 ) and graduated with a BS in elementary education ( 1958 ). She later obtained a master ' s in Adult Education from Alabama State University ( 1974 ) and a doctorate in administration / planning & adult education from the University of Alabama at Tuscaloosa ( 1986 ). Soror Phillips worked over 20 years as an educator , reading specialist , consultant , and adjunct professor with the Opelika City School System , Troup Vocational / Technical College , Alabama State Department of Education , and several universities . Soror Phillips was a member of Beta Xi Omega and Mu Sigma Omega , serving as the first basileus . She was also instrumental in founding Kappa Chi Chapter , Auburn University . In addition , she was a member of Thompson Chapel AME Zion Church , where she served as a trustee and steward . Soror Phillips leaves one son , Oliver ( Carla Dunkin ) Perkins , II , and two grandchildren , Mimi and Trey , to cherish her memory .
Nelson : Retired Teacher / Pearl Soror
Salisbury , NC – Pearl Soror Lillie Martin Nelson became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Nelson was a Life Member with 72 years of membership . She was a North Carolina Central University graduate and had a master ' s degree from the University of North Carolina Charlotte . She taught home economics for many years at Concord Middle School and retired from teaching . She was a member of Moore ' s Chapel AME Zion Church . She served as a class leader , lay council , steward board , Life Member ' s Council , Women ' s Home , Overseas Missionary Society , Adult Sunday School teacher , former president of the Willing Workers Club for over 30 years . In addition , she served as the church treasurer for over 20 years . Soror Nelson was initiated in Alpha Xi Chapter at North Carolina Central University in 1948 . She was a member of the Delta Xi Omega Chapter . She had previously served as the chapter president , treasurer , and committee chairman . Left to cherish her memory are her sons Ronald Nelson ( Traci ) and Reginald Nelson ( Barbara ), other relatives , friends , and sorors .
Pindle : Charter Member / Golden Soror
Charlotte , NC — Soror Shirley Wanda Pindle became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on February 25th , 2021 , she was 91 years old . She attended West Virginia State and Douglas University . She received her BA from the College of NJ ( formally Trenton State College ). She was one of the original charter members of Epsilon Upsilon Omega Chapter on March 8th , 1952 . She worked for the Trenton State Psychiatric hospital for 25 years before retiring from the State of NJ for 15 years as the first African American supervisor of claims . She always loved to help others and always found time to volunteer , especially with Meals on Wheels of Mercer County and Young Scholars Institute . She leaves to cherish her memory , her two daughters Cheryl Aaron and Joan Carthan ; two grandchildren , Simone ( Rob ) Harris and Cedric Pindle ; two great-grandchildren , Isabella and Xavier Harris , and a host of other loving relatives and friends .
Newman : Dentist / Educator / Golden Soror
Rockledge , FL – Soror Ethel Saunders Newman became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on January 7 , 2021 . She was initiated into the Beta Lambda Chapter in the fall of 1966 at District of Columbia Teachers College in Washington , DC . She received a Bachelor of Science degree in speech pathology . She attended George Washington University , received a Master of Arts in educational administration , and earned a Doctorate of Dental Surgery ( DDS ) at Howard University College of Dentistry . Her career integrated education and dentistry as an associate professor at Howard University College of Dentistry maintained a private dental practice and provost at Eastern Florida State College . In addition , Soror Newman served as chairman of Ebony Fashion Fundraiser , health , scholarship , protocol , and A . S . C . E . N . D . She was a member of the St . John the Evangelist Catholic Church and involved with a host of other community organizations . Cherishing her memory are her spouse of 53 years , Thomas Newman ; daughters Soror Kelley Moore , Monica McCluney , and three grandchildren .
Ramseur : Educator / Golden Soror / Life Member
Rock Hill , SC – Soror Edna Johnson Hall Ramseur became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She was initiated in Psi Chapter at Benedict College in 1955 . Soror Ramseur earned a bachelor ' s degree in 1957 . She earned a master ' s from North Carolina A & T University in 1966 . She taught in the public schools of Rock Hill , SC , for 30 plus years . She was a pioneer in helping to integrate Rock Hill School District III . She taught at Norfolk State University for two years . Soror Ramseur was a member of Hermon Presbyterian Church and later joined New Mt . Olivet A . M . E . Zion Church . She was also a life member of the NAACP . Soror Ramseur served Eta Alpha Omega Chapter until her health declined . She leaves to cherish her memory , her husband of 45 years , John W . Ramseur ; two children , Soror Dawn R . Blair ( Forsheé ) and John W . Ramseur , Jr . ( Demethria ); three bonus children , Geoffrey D . Ramseur ( Rosemarie ), Michele D . Ramseur , and J . Monique Ramseur ( Kevin ); and a host other family and friends .
