Matthews : 45 Year Member / Silver Soror
Washington , DC – Soror Ruth Christy Matthews became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on February 23 , 2021 . Soror Matthews attended Elizabeth City State University and was initiated into the Delta Theta Chapter in 1975 , where she served as a parliamentarian . She later joined Xi Zeta Omega Chapter and worked on several committees . She was employed by Howard University as a program analyst with the College of Medicine and retired after 30 years of service in 2009 . Due to health challenges , she became a strong transplant advocate . As a transplant recipient , she encouraged those awaiting their transplant to exercise , eat well and garner the support of family and friends . After recovering from her transplant , Soror Matthews returned to bowling . In addition , she was active in her church , New Song Bible Fellowship , and remained a member until her death . She leaves to cherish her memories her siblings , a large family of nieces , nephews , and cousins .
Mayfield : Educator / Silver Star / Life Member
Pearland , TX – Soror Billie Mayfield became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on December 22 , 2020 . Soror Mayfield began her formal education at Prairie View A & M College . She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and earned a Master of Education in elementary education and a minor in special education . In addition , she earned certifications in guidance and counseling and mid-management from Sul Ross State University . Soror Mayfield enjoyed a distinguished career as an educator for 42 years . She served in many capacities , including teacher , administrative assistant , counselor , special education supervisor , and secondary director of human resources . She was an active member of the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators and the American Counseling Association . Billie was a Silver Star and Life Member . In addition , she was a Charter Member of Rho Iota Omega . One of her favorite service activities was " Dress a Living Doll ," where she would dress a needy child from head to toe for the holidays .
Mayfield : Educator / Golden Soror / Life Member
Wilmington , DE – Soror Olive Anita Stewart Mayfield became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She graduated from Delaware State College ( now University ) and earned a master ' s degree from the University of Delaware . Soror Mayfield taught in the Wilmington Public School and Christina School Districts . During her 39-year career , she frequently arrived before the janitors unlocked the building for the day . Soror Mayfield was initiated in Zeta Omega Chapter in 1951 . Soror Mayfield was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church , having served as a former lector and member of the altar society . She was also a member of Wilmington ' s Salvation Army and community senior centers . She is survived by her son , Edward Lee Mayfield , Jr ., his wife Reyna and their daughter , Destiny ; her daughter , Bonnie Mayfield Early ; and her daughter , Alessandra , and many nieces , nephews , and cousins .
McConico : Retired Dental Professional / Golden Soror
Missouri City , TX – Soror Beverly McConico became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on January 31 , 2021 . She earned a bachelor ' s degree in chemistry from Hampton Institute ( Hampton University ) and attended graduate school at the University of Maryland , College Park . Following graduate school , she spent two years at the Federal Department of Commerce in Gaithersburg , MD . Later , she received a United States Army scholarship to attend the College of Dentistry at Howard University , where she earned her Doctor of Dentistry . During her sophomore year at Hampton Institute , Soror McConico was initiated into the Gamma Theta Chapter in the spring of 1966 . Soror McConico was a charter member of Pi Rho Omega Chapter . After moving to Houston , she transferred into Mu Kappa Omega and served on multiple committees and mentoring sorors . Soror McConico is survived by her husband Lt . Colonel Retired , Wilbur E . McConico ; son Keith McConico ; stepsons Jerry and Kevin McConico , grandchildren , great-grandchildren , sisters-in-law , and a host of nieces , nephews , cousins , friends , and sorors .
McCoy : Retired Educator
Winston-Salem , NC – Soror Georgiana McCoy became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on February 21 , 2021 . She attended Winston-Salem Teacher ' s College , now Winston- Salem State University , and graduated with a BS in elementary education in 1956 . She taught in Charlotte , NC , for one year and retired from the Winston-Salem / Forsyth County School System after 30 years . She was twice voted " Teacher of the Year " at Southwest Elementary in 1984 and 1991 . She was a member of United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church , where she was ordained as a deacon on January 25 , 2009 . She also served as church clerk , Stephens Minister , senior missionary , president of the General Fellowship Club , a gospel choir member , and member of the Ever-Ready Bible class . Soror McCoy is survived by children , Soror Manya Stewart ( Richard ) and Sherman McCoy ( Christina ), grandsons , and other family members .
McDaniel : Retired Educator / Charter Member
Lake Charles , LA – Soror Lee Ivory Bonner McDaniel became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on December 22 , 2020 . While attending Grambling College ( Grambling , Louisiana ), Soror Lee became a charter member of Alpha Theta Chapter and graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education . Her passion for teaching led her to Lake Charles , where she became a charter member of Zeta Psi Omega Chapter and a Life member . Soror McDaniel earned her Master of Education from McNeese State University . After teaching for 30 plus years , her 1984 retirement transitioned into a dedication to tutoring community children . A 65 year plus member of New Sunlight Baptist Church in Lake Charles , Soror McDaniel served with the Women ' s Home Mission , Sunday School , and Vacation Bible School . In addition , Soror McDaniel held memberships in the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association , the Calcasieu Parish Retired Teachers , the Golden Girls , and AARP . Cherishing her memory are her son , Gerald ( Dawn ), a daughter-in-law , one brother , four granddaughters including legacy , Alexis McDaniel , one great-grandson , relatives , and Zeta Psi Omega chapter sorors .
