Kyles : Science Teacher
St . Louis , MO – On February 22 , 2021 , Soror Robin Denise Kyles became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Kyles was initiated into Alpha Psi Chapter at Tennessee State University in 1977 . Soror Kyles was a member at St . Alphonsus Liguori " Rock " Catholic Church . Her line sisters wrote a poem about her ; a portion of the poem reads . " Our Unstoppable . Our Science Teacher . Our Heart Reacher . Our Always Supportive . Our Unforgettable .” Soror Kyle is preceded in death by her parents Marvin and Delores , and her sister Susie . She is survived by her sister , Karen Kyles ; brother Michael Kyles ; nephew Michael Terrell ( LaWanda ); great-nephew Michael Terrell , and other relatives and friends .
Lewis : Retired Educator / Golden Soror
Columbus , GA – Golden Soror Jewell Mays Lewis became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Lewis attended Tuskegee Institute , where she was initiated into the Gamma Kappa Chapter in 1969 . She received a bachelor ' s degree from Tuskegee Institute and a master ' s degree from Columbus College . Golden Soror Jewell was an active member of Gamma Tau Omega Chapter , where she held various offices and served on several committees . In addition , Golden Soror Jewell was a member of the Corinth Missionary Baptist Church . After 29 years of service as an educator , she retired from the Muscogee County School District . Soror Jewell leaves to cherish her memories : one son , Herman ( Marceda ) Lewis , Jr .; one daughter , Tavika Lewis ; one sister , Soror Evelyn Mays Abron .
Lowe : Retired Nurse / Administrator / Silver Star
Gadsden , AL — Silver Star Soror Gertie Lowe became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on January 29 , 2021 . She received a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Alabama and started a nursing career in her local community . She later advanced to the position of a nursing home administrator , where she remained until her retirement . Soror Lowe was initiated into Lambda Eta Omega Chapter in 1990 . She continued her history of serving others through her introduction of a Summer Enrichment Program in 2001 . The program offered learning opportunities for students during the summer months at no financial cost to them . Certified teachers were hired , field trips were conducted , and students were taught . In addition , Soror Lowe was active in her home church and the Women ' s Conventions at the local , state , and national levels . Soror Lowe is survived by her husband , Jack Lowe Sr .; children Larry , Roderick , Sidney , Tracy , and other relatives .
Martin : Retired Educator / 2nd Supreme Anti-Basileus / Golden Soror / Life Member
Prairie View , TX – Soror Pearl Sewell Martin became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She was a member of the Zeta Gamma Omega Chapter . She earned BA and MA degrees in art at Howard University . She later pursued further graduate studies in painting at the University of Iowa . Soror Martin ' s professional career began in 1953 in the Department of Art at Prairie View A & M University . Subsequently , she served as an itinerant art teacher for the Waller County Schools and as art teacher and librarian for the Waller Independent School District . Soror Martin was an active member of Zeta Gamma Omega Chapter . She later served as a basileus . Soror Martin is also a former second supreme anti-basileus and gave her inaugural speech in 1951 . Soror Martin was a Life Member of the sorority .
Mathews : Retired Educator / Silver Star / National Life Member
Jacksonville , FL – Soror Blondell M . Mathews became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Blondell was initiated into Gamma Rho Omega Chapter in 1980 . She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in home economics from South Carolina State University and earned a Master of Science degree from Florida State University . She taught high school science and home economics at the Florida Community College of Jacksonville until her retirement in 1987 after 33 years . She was a member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church ( U . S . A .). During her time at Woodlawn , she held many leadership positions , served on various committees , and started a food bank and a prison ministry . Soror Mathews was a member of Gamma Rho Omega Chapter and chaired many committees , was a Silver Star , and Life Member . She leaves to cherish her memory , a daughter Avis M . Mathews who is a legacy soror .
Matthews : Silver Soror
Fairburn , GA – Soror Leslie English Matthews became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . In 1992 Soror Matthews was initiated into Theta Xi Omega Chapter , where she served in various capacities . She received her bachelor ' s degree in business administration from Tuskegee University . She was a charter member and treasurer of the South Metro Atlanta Tuskegee Alumni Club . She was employed by a daycare center for two years before moving on to Fairburn Board of Education . Shortly after that , Soror Matthews was hired by Fulton County School District as an accountant assistant . Her sons and other parents appreciated her role as a Langston Hughes basketball mom . Soror Matthews is survived by her husband , Derrick Matthews , Sr .; her sons , Richard Carter , Christian Joseph , and Caden Lee ; her stepson , Derrick , Jr .; her parents Richard and Soror Cheris English ; her in-laws , uncles , aunts , cousins , and a host of other relatives and devoted friends .
