Phi Kappa Omega Celebrates 20th Anniversary
Evergreen Park , IL – Phi Kappa Omega Chapter celebrated 20 years of service and pivoted to make new plans to celebrate their milestone achievement . Led by Anniversary Committee Chairman , Soror Maricha Matthews , the chapter hosted a 20th anniversary virtual tea party . Sorors appeared online in tea party attire , donning fascinators and gloves . Sorors sipped tea from customized teacups and tea sets while enjoying tea sandwiches and tea cakes from Emeche Bakery , a collaboration with the Building Your Economic Legacy Committee in support of Black-Owned businesses . Sorors played virtual tea party games and shared moments during smaller breakout sessions in tea inspired rooms . To close out the event , a congratulatory video featuring many partners and supporters of Phi Kappa Omega was shared with attendees .
Lambda Tau Omega Hosts Virtual Donation Drive
Matteson , IL – Lambda Tau Omega ' s Target 5 : Global Impact committee members hosted its first ever virtual donation drive , Operation AKA Safe Space . Within the first hour of the event , the committee exceeded its goal of $ 4,000 . All proceeds were donated to Refugee One , who the committee partnered with for the drive , to assist in the organization ' s mission . Refugee One provides various resettlement services for refugees and immigrants from all over the world , of all ages , ethnic groups , faiths , and backgrounds . Refugee One is the largest organization of its kind in the state of Illinois . Their primary focus is to assist the deserving individuals in becoming independent , selfsupporting members of society and assisting them with adjusting to life in the United States . Members of the committee , clad in their African head wraps and pearls , hosted an hourlong live Zoom event . The program included
personal testimonials from refugees / program participants , giveaways , a question-and-answer session , and opportunities for attendees to " dance and donate ." Jims Porter , communication and advocacy manager for Refugee One , was the guest speaker for the event .

Alpha Mu Omega Hosts Youth Shark Tank
Indianapolis , IN – Alpha Mu Omega Chapter ’ s Building Your Economic Legacy Committee collaborated with Ivy Endowment , Incorporated , SCORE Association , Indy Black Chamber of Commerce , and Mid-States Minority Supplier Development Council to host their first Youth Shark Tank Entrepreneurship Workshop Series and Pitch Challenge . The six-week workshop series was designed to assist high school students aspiring to become entrepreneurs by guiding them in further developing effective business plans . Each student was paired with a mentor from the partnering organizations . These mentors worked with each of the participants throughout the entire process to further prepare them for the Youth Shark Tank Challenge which would allow them to showcase their pre-recorded business pitches . Each student competed for cash prizes to benefit their business startup expenses . The young entrepreneurs also had the opportunity to promote their businesses to a live audience on the day of the challenge . The winners

Eta Mu Omega Holds Founders ' Day Luncheon
South Bend , IN – Eta Mu Omega Chapter hosted its first virtual 2021 Founders ' Celebration . Sorors Carla Crittendon and Sasha Wilson coordinated the event . Former chapter members and local inactive members attended . Soror Crittendon , membership chairman , served as the mistress of ceremony . Following the welcome from chapter basileus , Soror Breanna Allen , sorors participated in an icebreaker , where they reflected on what attracted them to Alpha Kappa Alpha , favorite memories , and leadership positions held in the organization . The tribute to Eta Mu Omega members , was a pictorial review of the chapter ' s chartering and 60 years of service in the Michiana Community . The chapter ' s V . I . P . S . were introduced . Recognition of new Pearl Sorors Gloria Edgerton , Mamie Okeke ( posthumously ); Golden Soror Iris Outlaw and Silver Soror LaCarla Denney were held . Soror Wilson received the Soror of the Year award . Pearl Soror Ruby Jarrett Joyce , charter member of Eta Mu Omega and current member of Lambda Kappa Omega , was the keynote speaker .
