The event was led by Connection Chairman La ' Letta Ruff , Co- Chairman Marguerite McClinton Stoglin , the connection committee , and the dynamic leadership of chapter Basileus Velena McRae .

Upsilon Lambda Omega Hosts a Virtual Black Art Show
DeSoto , TX – Upsilon Lambda Omega Chapter ' s Target 4 : The Arts ! committee hosted its first Black Art Show via Zoom . The event was organized and led by Soror Armetrice Johnson , Target 4 chairman , and Soror Lenita Davis-Muhammad , Target 4 co-chairman . The art show featured three , local Black artists , of various age ranges and artistic backgrounds ; our youngest artist was twelve years old . A wide variety of art was featured , from hand-paintings to African sculptures and pieces .

Alpha Alpha Kappa Omega Answers the Call
Houston , TX – In the unprecedented election year , pursuant of the AKAs L . E . A . D . pledge , Alpha Alpha Kappa Omega connection committee efforts elevated voter engagement , turn out , education , and registration . Chapter members displayed AKAs L . E . A . D yard signs , partnered with four Black-owned businesses , and facilitated voter registration / engagement by placing mail-in voter registration cards in their establishments , and registering voters directly via VDVR credentials . The chapter partnered with the Houston Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity , and hosted a community webinar with Mike Muse , host of Sirius XM ' s ' The Mike Muse Show ' and discussed solutions to create and affect change within the criminal justice system , by voting strategically to end police brutality . Students at two local high schools were also registered to vote by chapter members . Chapter members phone banked and registered citizens to vote in collaboration with the East Harris County Empowerment Council ; members also supported voters at the polls by working as election clerks .

In partnership with the Houston Metropolitan Chapters of the sorority , the Houston NAACP , local community activists , and Houston Justice advocacy group , Alpha Alpha Kappa Omega led the ' Be a Hero , Mask up & Vote ' collaborative virtual community event . The event addressed the urgency and importance of voting , voting myths , offender rights , and provided useful resources , and much more .

Cicely Miller with CJazzy Art and Design , Jher ' Nya , The Painting Princess , and Adjowa Hodge with Pan African Connection , were the featured artists . Each artist showcased their work , shared their journey on how they became an artist , and what inspires their work . The Honorable Rachel Proctor , mayor of DeSoto , TX , who is also a member of the sorority , joined the event and provided a welcome to attendees . Over 80 individuals joined the Zoom , with attendees consisting of chapter members and the public . Following the event , members of the chapter shared the art they purchased on their
Alpha Kappa Omega Donates $ 2,500 to Star of Hope
Houston , TX – Alpha Kappa Omega Chapter donated $ 2,500 to the Star of Hope Women and Family Development Center at the Cornerstone Community Center . The donation was made possible by a grant from the Ivy Storehouse to assist Texas Storm Relief efforts . It was submitted by Soror Dee Foley for the benefit of that organization . Basileus Cherise Story and Soror Foley met with Marc Laney , major donations officer , to present the donation . The Star of Hope is a Christ-centered community dedicated to meeting the needs of homeless men , women , and children . The community center provides holistic care through programs that promote personal development , provides stability , and hope for 150 families and 180 single women .
