Stevenson : Retired Educator / Pearl Member / Life Member
Dover , DE – Soror Courtney White Stevenson became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Stevenson was a native of Lynchburg , Virginia , and moved to Dover in the 1940s to attend the Delaware College for Colored Students ( now Delaware State University ), where she earned a BS in home economics , marrying the late William Stevenson in 1944 after graduation . She later attended New York University , where she obtained her master ' s in family life education . She taught at many schools in Delaware , including Clayton Elementary , Louis L . Redding Comprehensive High School , and Delaware State University , where she served as the Home Economics Department chair . Soror Stevenson was active in the Epsilon Iota Omega Chapter , serving as basileus and treasurer . She had a passion for service and was known throughout Delaware . Soror Stevenson is survived by her nephew Seaton White and a host of family and friends .
Stroman : Retired Educator / Charter Member / Golden Soror
Kokomo , IN – Soror Gerry Gunnings Stroman became an Ivy Beyond the Wall , April 25 , 2021 . She was initiated into Gamma Lambda Chapter at Winston-Salem State University , where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree . She received a Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling from Michigan State University . For more than 30 years , she worked at Indiana University Kokomo , serving as assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs and affirmative action officer . The university was renamed the Distinguished Inclusive Excellence Award in her honor . Soror Stroman was the first to receive the award due to her commitment to diversity and inclusion . She was a charter member of Omicron Phi Omega Chapter and served as its 5th and 16th basileus . She became a Golden Soror and was a Second Missionary Baptist Church member . She leaves to cherish her memory , husband , Willie E . Stroman ; daughter , Amber Stroman ; three loving grandchildren , Jaylen , Amara , and Ke ' Ari ; one sister , and a host of relatives and friends .
Sweeney : Retired Educator / Charter Member / Golden Soror / Life Member
Cheraw , SC – Soror Gladys Streater Sweeney became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She received her bachelor ' s degree from North Carolina A & T State University and a master ' s degree from South Carolina State University . Soror Sweeney was initiated in the Alpha Phi Chapter in 1968 . She later joined the Epsilon Chi Omega Chapter and then became a charter member of the Omicron Zeta Omega Chapter in 1984 . She served as the corresponding secretary in Epsilon Chi Omega and treasurer and financial secretary in Omicron Zeta Omega . In February 2020 , she received the Ethel Hedgeman Lyle Spirit Award . Soror Sweeney dedicated her life to the progression and education of children and young adults for 41 . She retired from Chesterfield County School District ( SC ). Soror Sweeney leaves to cherish her memory , her husband of 46 years , James N . Sweeney , her legacy , Soror Shalah S . Sweeney , son , James N . Sweeney , Jr . ( Jennifer ), and three grandchildren ( Memphis , Valerie , and Victoria ).
Teamer : Educator / Business Owner / Silver Soror / Life Member
New Orleans , LA – Soror Karen Trass Teamer became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on March 30 , 2021 . She attended Dillard University in New Orleans and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Education . She also attended The University of Missouri at Columbia and received a journalism certification in broadcast journalism . Later , she received her master ' s in education in K-12 principalship / school administration . While at Dillard University , Soror Teamer was initiated into the Beta Upsilon Chapter in 1976 . She was a Life Member of Omicron Lambda Omega Chapter in New Orleans . She enjoyed a lifetime of sisterhood and service . Cherishing Soror Teamer ' s life and legacy is her husband Charles Carl Teamer , Jr . Blessed to this 39-year union were three children- Cherie Elizabeth Teamer Henley , Ashley Mary Teamer , and Charles Carl Teamer , III .
Thomas : Retired Child Therapist / Pearl Soror
Macon , GA – Soror Carolyn Taylor Thomas became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on March 26 , 2021 . She received her bachelor ' s degree in social work from Spelman College and a master ' s degree from the Atlanta University School of Social Work . She was a child therapist and retired in 2010 . Soror Thomas was initiated into Alpha Omega Chapter in 1947 and later joined Epsilon Omega Omega in Macon , becoming a life member in 2012 . Pearl Soror Thomas maintained 73 years of continuous service and established a legacy of sisterhood serving in numerous capacities . She served as graduate advisor for Kappa Eta for approximately 20 years and was dubbed the " Dean of Graduate Advisors " and the recipient of the Angela M . Williams Humanitarian Award ; the Carolyn Taylor Thomas Scholarship Award has been established in her honor . She leaves to cherish her loving memory her caretaker , Mrs . Tracy Butts , sorority sisters , church members , friends , and goddaughter , Mrs . Anita Shelton .
Tomlinson : Former Basileus / Silver Star
Bronx , NY – Soror Helen Morgan Tomlinson became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on June 3 , 2021 . She was a Silver Star Soror with 45 years of membership . Soror Tomlinson was initiated in Eta Omega Omega Chapter in 1976 and served as the basileus from 1989-1990 . Upon her passing , she was the annual Holiday Toy Drive cochair . She graduated in 1973 from Talladega College , where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and later a Master of Arts degree in Teacher Education / ESL from Hunter College , City University of New York . For over 25 years , she worked for Bell Atlantic ( Verizon ) and the New York City Department of Education . To cherish her memory , she leaves her loving husband of 26 years , Dorrell Tomlinson , daughter Darla , family members , sorors , and a host of friends . Soror Helen will be missed .
