Hidalgo : Retired Educator / Pearl Soror / Life Member
Philadelphia , PA – Soror Alfreda E . Hidalgo became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on May 28 , 2021 . She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Temple University , where she was initiated into Gamma Epsilon in 1951 . Soror Hidalgo began her career as an elementary school teacher with the School District of Philadelphia and retired after thirty years of dedicated service . She transferred membership to Omega Omega Chapter and held several offices / committees : first anti-basileus from 1967-1969 , second antibasileus , dean of pledgees - Gamma Epsilon , undergraduate advisor for Delta Mu and philacter . She was instrumental in setting up various program projects and established the Stephen Smith Home for the Aged that won the chapter ' s Silver Bowl for women ' s work . Her other organizational affiliations are the NAACP , PUSH Association , National Teachers ' Association , and American Association of University Women . She was a devoted member of Zion Baptist Church in Pennsylvania . Soror Hidalgo leaves many memories cherished by a host of relatives , friends , and sorority sisters .
Hill : Retired Educator
Albany , NY – Soror Alvania Hill became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Hill was a West Virginia State University graduate , initiated in Nu Chapter in 1955 . In 1966 , Soror Hill was instrumental in the reactivation of Delta Mu Omega . She was a passionate and exceptional educator and mentor . She was very proud of being chosen by New York State to go to England to study at the University of Manchester . She was a faithful member of Israel AME Church for over 50 years and dedicated to her church . Soror Hill will be remembered for her style , compassion , sense of humor , love of family , teaching ability , and love for the Albany community . She is survived by her son , Joffrey H . Hill , Esq ., her daughter-in-law Vernita E . Sias-Hill , Esq ., her granddaughters lmani and Kieara Hill , her sister Joan Howlett , and friends and family .
Holland : Registered Nurse / Former Basileus
Aiken , SC – Soror Kimberly Bianca Holland became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on May 25 , 2021 . She received a BSN from the College of Charleston , MSN , and MSNP from the Medical College of Georgia . She was employed as a registered nurse at the University Hospital as a neuro / stroke intensive care unit . She worked with various ministries at Second Baptist Church , including the young adult bible study , praise team / choir , and board of trustees . She was a member of the NAACP and American Legion Auxiliary Unit 212 . She was chairman of the SC Palmetto Girls State and Education Foundation . Soror Holland was initiated at the College of Charleston Iota Omicron Chapter in 2003 . She was an active member with Kappa Upsilon Omega Chapter , serving as basileus for two terms , grammateus , pecunious grammateus , and tamiouchos . She also served on the South Atlantic Region Protocol Team . Soror Holland is survived by her parents , siblings , and a host of family .
Hopkins : Biophysicist / Chemist / Diamond Soror
Roxbury , MA – Psi Omega Chapter Diamond Soror Esther Arvilla Harrison Hopkins became an Ivy Beyond the Wail on May 19 , 2021 . Soror Hopkins celebrated 75 years as a member in 2020 at our North Atlantic Region Conference in Hartford , CT . At 94 , she participated in meetings and events , staying connected virtually during the pandemic . Soror Hopkins was initiated as a member of the Epsilon Chapter . She was a biophysicist , research chemist , and environmental attorney with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection . She served on the Board of Selectmen from 1999 to the early 2000s , even becoming the Board ' s first African American chair . After stepping down as a Selectwoman , she became a Keefe Tech Regional Vocational School Committee member until retiring from politics to Martha ' s Vineyard .
Howard : Community Service
Danville , VA – Soror Olivia N . Howard became Ivy Beyond the Wall . She graduated from J . F . Slater High School in Bristol , Tennessee . She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Knoxville College in Knoxville , TN , and a Master of Science degree from the University of Virginia . She enjoyed a successful career in Virginia ' s Pittsylvania County school system until retirement . She was very active in the community , especially the Bibleway Cathedral . She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star , Alpha Phi Omega Chapter , the Chit Chat Club , the Big Sister ' s Club , and several other organizations . On June 18 , 1942 , Soror Howard was born to Velma Heath and Toy Odell Howard in Bristol , TN . She is survived by her loving family , a host of friends , and sorors .
Johnson : Retired Educator / Silver Soror / Life Member
Philadelphia , PA – Soror Beatrice Bright Johnson became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She earned her BS and M . Ed . degrees in education at Cheyney University . Soror Johnson was awarded a teaching fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh , where she received a Ph . D . in education . She founded the Educational Resources Institute at Cheyney and was awarded a Diversity and Equity grant from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education . She served as College / University liaison and educational consultant to the Pennsylvania Governors ' Academy for Urban Education . She was invited to present her research at Oxford University , England , in 2010 . She retired after 38 years of dedicated service at Cheyney University . She served on membership , history and archives , calendar girl , health , and zodiac committees in the Omega Omega Chapter . She was a lifelong and dedicated member of Mt . Pisgah AME Church . Soror Johnson leaves to cherish her memory a beloved daughter , Soror Staci E . Johnson , a host of relatives , friends , and sorors .
