Clearwater , FL – Soror Corlis Campbell became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on February 16 , 2021 . She was initiated into the Nu Beta Omega Chapter in 1986 , dedicating 35 years of sisterhood and service . She served as basileus , tamiouchos , hodegos , Ivy Leaf ® reporter , chaplain , and chair of various committees . Soror Campbell was a member of Mt . Olive AME Church , where she served as treasurer and steward . Soror Campbell graduated from the University of South Florida , where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work . Before her retirement , Soror Campbell served as the circuit administrator for the Florida Department of Corrections . In addition , she had 39 years of experience working on all levels of community corrections . Cherishing her memory is her husband of 41 years , Chris Campbell ; sons Christopher ( Gisselle ), Steven , Jonathan ( Soror Tyler ), and Logan ; grandchildren , relatives , friends , and sorors .
Cody : Educator / Diamond Soror
Maplewood , NJ – Diamond Soror Betty Jane Frazier Cody became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . She earned a BA degree in education from Washburn University in Topeka , Kansas . She was initiated into Upsilon Chapter in 1943 and served as the chapter basileus . After college , she became a teacher and taught students of all ages in a one-room classroom in rural Kansas . She married Henry L . Cody and became an army wife , with three children traveling worldwide . After Henry ' s retirement , they settled in Ocean Township , NJ , and became founding members of United Fellowship Baptist Church in Asbury Park , NJ . Soror Cody became a Diamond Soror in 2018 as a general member . Preceding in death are her husband of 47 years , Lieutenant Colonel Henry L . Cody , Sr ., and twin sister , Barbara D . Carter . She leaves to cherish her memory , children , H . Leroy Cody , Jr . ( Elaine ), Patricia E . Alston , Cynthia J . Cody , grandchildren , great-grandchildren , sister , Soror Juanita R . Clardy , relatives , and friends .
Cash : Retired Educator / Diamond Soror
Roanoke , VA – Soror Viola Taylor Cash became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on June 2 , 2021 . She was initiated in the Alpha Phi Chapter at North Carolina A & T State University in 1946 . Soror Cash perpetuated the purposes and ideals of the sorority through her work as an educator , retiring after 30 years of teaching in the Roanoke County ( VA ) school system . She was officially declared the oldest-living teacher of George Washington Carver Elementary and High School , the only school for black students , before desegregation in 1966 . Soror Cash was a Beta Chi Omega Chapter member , serving as secretary and faithfully sharing her time and talents . Her love of ministry led her to serve in various capacities at Shiloh Baptist Church , including church clerk and Sunday school superintendent . In the community , she was active in the Roanoke ( VA ) Chapter of The Links , Incorporated and Chums , Inc ., and was a volunteer member of several community boards .
Coleman : Retired Educator / Diamond Soror
Detroit , MI – Diamond Soror Ella Cabell Coleman became an Ivy Beyond the Wall on April 15 , 2021 . Soror Coleman attended Wayne State University and was initiated into Beta Mu Chapter on June 1 , 1945 . She received her BS degree in secondary education and master ' s degree in elementary education and completed her post-degree studies at the University of Michigan and University of Detroit Mercy . She worked with Detroit Public School students for over 30 years with a distinguished career . She married Abraham Cabell from their union Trouve and Khalid were born . She married again to Edward Coleman . Her admiration for high principals and civic courage was evident through participation at People Community Church , Eta Phi Beta Sorority , Top Ladies of Distinction , The Optimist Club of Central Detroit , and a Golden member of NAACP . She leaves her son , granddaughter , and AKA legacy Soror Sauda and many friends and family to cherish her memory .
Charles : Retired Educator / Pastor / Charter Member / Golden Soror
Cheraw , SC – Soror M . Diana Waddell Charles became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . A Golden Soror , Life Member , and Charter Member of the Omicron Zeta Omega Chapter , Soror Charles earned her BA from Livingstone College in Salisbury , NC . Soror Charles was initiated into Alpha Xi Chapter on April 22 , 1964 . She obtained a Master of Education degree from the University of South Carolina . Before becoming a charter member , she was a member of the Epsilon Chi Omega Chapter in Florence , South Carolina . She taught in Chesterfield County and retired as an English Instructor at Chesterfield-Marlboro Technical College . She served as president of the Cheraw Branch of the NAACP and was appointed to the Chesterfield County Election Commission Board by the South Carolina Secretary of State . Soror Charles was the pastor of White Oak AME Zion Church . Left to cherish her memories and continue her legacy ; her husband Donald D . Charles , her daughter , Soror Brodwynn C . Roberts ( Kevin ), and son , Dane D . Charles ; grandchildren and great-grandchildren .
Cowan : Educator / Golden Soror / Life Member
Denver , CO – Soror Artimese Bernice Northorp Cowan became an Ivy Beyond the Wall . Soror Cowan was initiated through the Gamma Kappa Chapter in 1949 at Tuskegee University . Her love for education led to a 20- year career as a first-grade teacher in Aurora , CO . She was the first African American teacher hired in a nearly all-white school district . After retirement , she served on the Aurora Public School Board of Directors and later became executive director of the Colorado School and Public Employees Association . Soror Cowan reactivated in the mid-70s , joining the Epsilon Nu Omega Chapter in Denver , where she co-founded the chapter ' s current Outstanding High School Senior Girls program that recognizes extraordinary students . She was a Life Member and Golden Soror . Her husband , Norris S . Cowan , preceded her in death . Soror Cowan is survived by four children , including Soror Dawn Frazier and Soror Dina Berta ; seven grandchildren , including Soror Chloe Frazier ; and six great-grandchildren .
