Pi Tau Omega ' s 2nd annual Juneteenth celebration was a virtual program focused on the impact of black dollars in the community .

The Southfield Chamber of Commerce business roundtable focused on the impact of black dollars in our community . Freedom House of Detroit was highlighted as a global community partner supporting refugees still seeking freedom . Young adult artists , poets , and activists delivered thought-provoking performances challenging us to continue seeking freedom and equality in our communities .
Alpha Omega Foundation Holds World Refugee Day and Juneteenth
Cleveland , OH – After welcome from Chairman Brinson and greetings from Community Concerns Assistant Chairman Howard , Dr . Mittie Davis Jones explained her theme " From Persecution to Possibilities " by comparing refugees ' escape from persecution and enslaved African Americans ' freedom from bondage , delayed in Texas two years after President Lincoln ' s Emancipation Proclamation . Supporting Soles4Souls ' distribution of shoes worldwide to needy children and impoverished women , each participant gave $ 5.00 to Soles4Souls , adding to Alpha Omega Chapter ' s gifts of 1,227 pairs of shoes . Shifting to virtual activities , LaChanee Hipps , Alabama State University alumna and Buck Out Cleveland owner-executive director , demonstrated HBCU band dance routines . Gourmet Girl Custom Cakes owner Adenike Mosely Brown blended and baked an upsidedown strawberry cake . Meanwhile , DJ Professional was spinning summertime hits . The Alpha Omega Chapter Foundation holds World Refugee Day and Juneteenth Virtual Cookout with donations to Soul4Souls , an art and essay contest , and participants patronizing Black-owned businesses during this Jubilee . art and essay contest ' s 6th , 7th , and 8th-grade winners from Nathan Hale School , displaying their Juneteenthinspired projects . Winners received gift cards , and the school received 20 books and magazines . For the # AKAJuneteenthKashMob , participants patronized Black-owned businesses , such as Northeast Ohio Popeyes owned by Alpha Omega member Vanessa Whiting . Lambda Phi Omega Collects 1,312 Pairs of Shoes
Cleveland , OH – Lambda Phi Omega Chapter made a GLOBAL IMPACT by collecting 1,312 pairs of gently worn and new shoes for the Soles4Souls program and 210 eyeglasses for the Lions Club International . We exceeded our goal ! Sorors drove by and dropped off their donations , while 25 sorors worked diligently to collect , sort , and pack the items . The shoes they no longer use will provide many women worldwide with the economic opportunity they need . In addition , our old eyeglasses will decrease blindness , help restore eyesight and improve eye health and eye care for thousands of people around the world .
Beta Eta Omega Charter Member Honored
Dayton , OH – The University of Dayton ( UD ) named a recently renovated building in honor of Soror Jessie Hathcock , the first African American woman to graduate . Soror Hathcock was a noted educator and humanitarian in the Dayton community . " Jessie S . Hathcock Hall will be an exciting educational facility , housing our fastest-growing academic program , equipped to offer students the classroom and experiential learning opportunities they need for success in this dynamic field ," University President Eric F . Spina said . " It is a fitting tribute to a quintessential educator and truly distinguished UD alumna ." She graduated from UD with a bachelor ' s degree in education in 1930 . She taught in Dayton public schools for 34 years , was Dean of Girls and an English teacher at Dunbar High School . In 1978 , she received an honorary doctorate in humanities from the University of Dayton , the first African American woman to be so honored . In her words of thanks to the University , she stated , " May the University of Dayton continues to grow in
