Inkster , MI – Aligning with Target 1 : HBCU For Life , the Eta Iota Omega Chapter ' s Service Builders Foundation , supported the national HBCU initiative , hosted successful and fun " Jokes & Jams on " The Yard " event . This profitable event raised funds to provide financial support to metro Detroit students attending our cherished institutions . Omega Xi Omega and Pi Tau Omega Bring Awareness to Human Trafficking
New Haven , MI – The Target 5 Committees of Omega Xi Omega and Pi Tau Omega Chapters hosted a virtual Global Impact Day event that addressed a silent epidemic threatening our society , human trafficking . Attended by over 180 guests , the discussion included knowledge about what human trafficking is , who it affects , preventative measures and resources , effects on targeted individuals , real scenarios , and Q & A . The Assistant Attorney General-Human Trafficking Task Force , FBI Victims Advocate , Michigan State Police , Night Angels , and Alternatives for Girls , gave vital takeaways from the event : " If you see something , SAY SOMETHING "; " Be a HOPE dealer , don ' t be judgmental of ANYONE ' S situation ." Next , Ms . Lauren Sowell shared her experience as a human trafficking survivor . Details about her journey are documented in her book , " Walking In My Purpose and Destiny " by TUG Sowell . Finally , Omega Xi Omega ' s own Keia Perry- Farr discussed how her organization , " Genesis Youth Services " informs and educates on this topic . Ten outfits for young boys / men aged 15-20 were donated to Genesis Youth Services to help them find stable jobs and steer them away from the dangers of human trafficking . In addition , gas cards were presented to support the organization ' s transport care packages for victims .
Theta Lambda Omega Promotes Target 4
Pontiac , MI – Theta Lambda Omega Chapter ' s Target 4 Chairman Mildretta Hughes invited Charles Bibbs ( California ) and Kevin Williams ( WAK ) ( Georgia ) to come and speak with students in Pontiac . The artists discussed the impact the Harlem Renaissance had on their contemporary work . After the presentations , students were presented with prints from their original position ; Moon Children ( Bibbs ) and The Ballerina ( WAK ). Under the guidance of Marshelia Williams , students created art pieces .
Target 4 ' s goals continued virtually during the pandemic , with students learning via Zoom . The committee collaborated with local artists to bring art to students . Soror Ivy Horn ( Pi Tau Omega Chapter Southfield , Michigan ) taught students to create origami . Saxophonist Andrew Prince ( North Carolina ) entertained students and told of the Harlem Renaissance musicians that influenced his contemporary work . Pontiac students were allowed to showcase their acting abilities under the guidance of George Pitchford from North Star Theatre . During the Harlem Renaissance , acting as a form of expression of social injustice was used to tell the story of the plight of Black Americans . In addition , it was used to express emotions and political issues .

Tau Alpha Omega and the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women ' s Club ' s Inc ., Detroit Club celebrated Women ' s History Month with a panel discussion on the passing of the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote .
" Valiant Women of the Vote : Refusing to be Silent ." The panelists for the occasion were Nikkiya Branch , Esq ., deputy general counsel for the City of Detroit Water Department ; Alisha Bell , Wayne County Commissioner ; Delores A . Brown , retired executive director , Detroit Public Schools Community District ; and Linda C . Allen , moderator , and Tau Alpha Omega charter member . This year ' s theme celebrated the passing of the 19th amendment granting women the right to vote . A short film , " Votes for Women : How the Suffragists Won ," was viewed and set the tone for the discussion . Focal points of the program sought to honor the legacy of Black women who paved the way for us in pursuit of equal voting rights for women of color . This program highlighted the accomplishments of women , examined many voting rights challenges that continue to plague and disenfranchise our communities , and offered ideas on how we can individually and collectively get involved in improving these disparities and combat voter suppression . Panel members discussed what women should consider today in seeking political office and strategies to protect our voting rights .
