Zeta Chi Omega Helps One Child at a Time
Arlington , VA – Zeta Chi Omega Chapter members participated in The One Child @ A Time Virtual Campaign by donating cribs , diapers , baby toddler clothes , toys , and books for refugee families in the Arlington , Virginia communities . The African Community Center sponsors the campaign to alleviate costs and stress on refugee families seeking employment and striving for self-sufficiency in a new country . The chapter involvement began when the Global Impact Committee Chairmen , Sorors Edith Bartley and Karen Ford-Jackson , became aware of the fees levied upon refugees from African and Middle Eastern countries seeking asylum in the United States . In addition , a young woman whose Burundian parents sought asylum in the United States credits the program as an essential part of her incredible journey from refugee to obtaining a master ' s degree . Soror Chiquita King is the chapter ' s program chairman , and Soror Robin G . McCoy is the chapter basileus .
Lambda Kappa Omega Shows Green Thumb on Earth Day
Fairfax , VA – As more than 100 nations across the globe embarked on the 51st celebration of Earth Day ; it only felt right to honor a few Blackowned enterprises along the way . Lambda Kappa Omega Chapter joined forces with local entrepreneurs , Nutritionist Stephanie Hall and Urban Farmer Matthew Williams , for a virtual Sip and Plant event focused on raising community awareness of critical health issues impacting African American women ' s nutrition
Lambda Kappa Omega hosted a Sip & Plant event to celebrate Earth Day and recognize local black entrepreneurs . and wellness . The Sip and Plant event kicked off with a brief introduction from integrative nutrition coach and plant-based chef Stephanie Hall . They told her journey of transforming her allergies and low energy levels into a lifestyle change . Next , she led virtual participants through a demo on combining organic kale , romaine , cucumber , ginger root , fuji apples , and lemon to create her famous Greenery juice , which is known for its gentle rejuvenating quality . Next , participants were greeted by Matthew Williams , a local urban farmer from Wilmington , DE , a living testament of his mantra , education + exposure = economic opportunity . The Sip and Plant concluded with Matthew leading 60 participants through a virtual demonstration on how to plant potted herbs .
Gamma Upsilon Omega Donates to Families in Refuge
Hampton , VA – In support of World Refugee Month , Gamma Upsilon Omega ' s Target 5 : Global Impact Committee donated twenty dictionaries to the Hampton Adult and Alternative Learning Center . The dictionaries were presented to Ms . Myra Chambers , Adult Learning Center director , and Ms . Amy Dunster , English as a Second Language ( ESL ) program coordinator . The committee also collaborated with Target 3 : Building Your Economic Legacy to present various items to a local school in Hampton . These items included spring / summer clothing ,

Lambda Omega Holds # CAP SM Scholars Virtual Celebrations
Newport News , VA – Lambda Omega Chapter continued encouraging , motivating , educating , and celebrating its # CAP SM scholars to the finish line . Nine high school seniors participated in National College Signing Day . The seniors were honored in style on social media platforms . They announced their college decisions : Norfolk State University , Virginia State University , Xavier University , Old Dominion University , James Madison University , and Radford University . The # CAP SM program ended with a virtual celebration as the nine seniors were given a senior send-off . The scholars were placed in breakout rooms to discuss current college students regarding their college experiences . The seniors were surprised to have a former Lambda Omega # CAP SM scholar , a rising sophomore at Virginia State University , participate in their discussion . In addition to the celebration , the junior # CAP SM scholars received certificates of participation and Amazon gift cards and are looking forward to returning to # CAP SM in the fall . The senior scholars received t-shirts of their chosen college , certificates of participation , send-off baskets consisting of bedding items , bath towel sets , hygiene items , extension cords , and even shower shoes .
Upsilon Omicron Omega Forms COVID-19 Vaccination Response Team
Norfolk , VA – Upsilon Omicron Omega ( UOO ) Chapter , through its combined Risk Management and Disaster Relief ( RMDR ) Committees , developed a plan to disseminate the location of vaccine clinics providers and appointment links to its chapter members , their families , and the surrounding Tidewater community . The result was forming a chapter GroupMe chat named the UOO Pink & Green COVID-19 vaccination response team . Since the chat ' s inception , there have been over 90 vetted posts of vaccine clinic locations , dates , times , and appointment links . The chapter accelerated its efforts during COVID-19 National Month of Action .
