Sorors Tonya Robertson , Yolanda Cosby , and Rasheena Wilson . The culminating event took place virtually where Soror Spearman encouraged the Pink Satin Pearls to reach for their destiny , to grow past their challenges , and to reach back to help others . Soror Spearman has served at the local , regional , and international level and currently is in her 7th year as the Chairman of the International Leadership Fellows Committee .
DC chapters Xi Omega , Xi Zeta Omega , and Rho Mu Omega jointly hosted the first virtual " AKA Day at the Capitol via zoom .
DC Chapters Host First Virtual AKA Day at the Capitol
Washington , DC – Three Washington , DC graduate chapters ( Xi Omega , Xi Zeta Omega , and Rho Mu Omega ) jointly hosted the first virtual " AKA Day at the Capitol : District of Columbia ." Seventy-five sorors attended the event . Sorors received greetings from the North Atlantic Region Connection Committee Representative Soror Erma Barron , the DC Council Chairman Phil Mendelson , and Jennifer Porter , the executive director of the Mayor ' s Office on Women ' s Policy and Initiatives . This event also featured special presentations from other DC elected officials : Sorors Christina Henderson ( At-Large Councilmember ), Janeese Lewis George ( Ward 4 Councilmember ), and Robin Nunn ( Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner , 2B03 ). Among many event highlights , sorors had virtual one-on-one meetings in breakout rooms with DC councilmembers to advocate for and to discuss various issues related to the sorority ' s international legislative agenda , including funding for education , access to healthcare , small businesses , criminal justice reform , violence prevention , and DC statehood . AKA Day proved once again that when the sorority speaks , civic leaders notice and value our input .
Rho Mu Omega Hosts Pink Satin Pearls Virtual Tea
Washington , DC – In conjunction with the Rho Mu Omega Chapter , the DC Pearls III Foundation held its fifth bi-annual Pink Satin Pearls ( PSP ) program as a virtual tea event . The PSP program lasts six months for 6-10-year-old girls to help develop leadership skills , build confidence in public speaking , provide opportunities for civic engagement , assist in developing etiquette skills , and encourage academic success . It also includes FUN-raising activities and social engagement among the participants . The FUN-raising / virtual events were game night , punch & paint night , and the bike / walk-athon , done on their own and with family members . Xi Omega Serves Mobile Meals to the Needy
Washington , DC – Xi Omega Chapter recently sponsored a food truck to provide more than 100 community members with " mobile meals ." The BBQ Bus food truck prepared and packaged meals for distribution at local nonprofit So Others Might Eat ( SOME ). The Operation AKA Assist Committee organized the meals that were picked up , with a line forming in the parking lot

before the event kickoff . The barbecue meal of a smoked chicken sandwich , baked beans , and coleslaw was a welcome treat for the Memorial Day weekend . SOME is a longtime Xi Omega partner . For more than 20 years , the chapter has annually volunteered at SOME for the Dr . Martin Luther King Jr . Day of Service . The " mobile meals " event was another opportunity for Xi Omega to support a program partner and minority-owned business while serving those in need .
