Wilson Named Outstanding Preceptor
Soror Kristen Wilson , Ph . D ., of Gamma Upsilon Omega Chapter , was recently selected as one of VCU School of Pharmacy ' s Outstanding Preceptors for 2020-2021 . The Outstanding Preceptor Award recognizes preceptors who have demonstrated excellence in educating students on rotations . Criteria for the award include the following characteristics of an excellent preceptor : stimulates independent and guided learning with constructive feedback ; demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching ; is inspiring and passionate about the profession ; is accessible to students and organized ; shows professionalism , leadership , and management skills ;
and is an excellent communicator and positive role model with welldeveloped interpersonal skills . Students nominate preceptors for Outstanding Preceptor Awards during their rotations . One student stated , " Dr . Wilson was an exceptional preceptor , even in the virtual setting . She is calm , knowledgeable , and gives clear directions and expectations of the knowledge she shares to her students ."
Carroll Releases First Book
Soror Eula Belle Walker Carroll recently published her first book , Prevailing . This book is a story of her life of integrity , courage , servanthood , and Godly principles that led to her success in life during times of racial tension in the South . Soror Eula shares her story of challenging moments turned into victories through determination , hope , and service . Soror Carroll is a retired nurse manager from the United States Department of Veteran Affairs in Atlanta , Georgia , and business owner of New McCBE Boutique ( lady ' s fashions ) in Atlanta and Newnan , Georgia . She was recognized in the 2003 Ivy Leaf ® magazine for her involvement in community service and awards . Coleman-Lovelace Releases First Book
Soror Christina Coleman-Lovelace , member of Upsilon Eta Omega Chapter , Fairfield , AL , recently announced her first book entitled , Trusting God in the Dark ( When Pain Meets Purpose ). This book is based on the death of her eleven-year-old son and how God helped her navigate through the waters of healing to find the purpose of the pain she had to experience . She wrote this book to encourage other mothers , fathers , grandparents , or anyone grieving the loss of a child or a loved one . She continues to put her hope in God and that He understands . Crosby ' s First Groundbreaking Book
Soror Dorian Brown Crosby of Kappa Omega Chapter ( Atlanta , Georgia ) published her first book , Somalis in the Neo-South : African Immigration , Politics , and Race . The book offers a balanced and insightful look at Somalis in the southern United States . Politically centered , it is a thought-provoking book that presents an essential and positive alternative to the familiar portrayal of Somalis in the United States . It explains the U . S . resettlement process and illuminates Somalis ' civic engagement and entrepreneurship in Clarkston , Georgia , and Nashville , Tennessee . Soror Crosby is an assistant professor in the Department of Political Science at Spelman College and the 2017 recipient of the Vulcan Materials Company Teaching Excellence Award . Since earning her Ph . D . in political science from Clark Atlanta University , her publications , lectures , and advocacy focus on resettled African refugees in the United States . In addition , Soror Crosby serves as the Kappa Omega Chapter Target 5 committee co-chairman .
