BISHOP E . ANNE HENNING BYFIELD
Bishop E . Anne Henning Byfield was recently installed as the 135 th
President of the Bishop ’ s Council of the African Methodist Episcopal
Church . The Investiture ceremony took place at the Grand Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville , TN .
The Bishop ’ s Council of the African Methodist Episcopal Church is the Executive Branch of the African Methodist Episcopal Church . Soror Byfield was elected and consecrated the 135 th Bishop in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 2016 . She is assigned to the 13 th Episcopal District which comprises the states of Tennessee and Kentucky . She is the former Presiding Bishop of the 16th Episcopal District which includes the Caribbean , South America , and Europe .
Throughout her servanthood , Soror Byfield has published books , poems , and articles . She is a highly-regarded strategy consultant and acclaimed motivational speaker . She is only the second female bishop to lead the 13 th Episcopal District and a member of the World Methodist Evangelism Committee . She also serves as chair of the Social Action Commission of the Connectional AME Church .
Soror Byfield grew up in Tennessee . Her brother , the late Garnett Henning , also served as a Bishop in the AME Church . They made history in the AME Church representing the first time a person was elected who had a sibling on the bench of Bishops .
Supreme Basileus Glenda Glover was an invited guest at the investiture event in early December . Acclaimed singer CeCe Winans headlined the sacred event .
Soror Byfield was initiated into the Zeta Chapter at Wilberforce University in 1970 . She is a Golden Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority , Incorporated .®
