MATERIALS AND APPLICATIONS
the entire Point Plastic team to supporting the circular transition of this industry . WHAT DOES „ SUSTAINABILITY “ MEAN FOR POINT PLASTIC ? Our idea of sustainability is the result of a cultural change that involves the way we think , produce , and market our additives so that our
CO 2 footprint is as small as possible . To date , Point Plastic covers more than 35 %
These challenges must of course be faced with innovative tools , systems and solutions that push the entire sector to strengthen investments in increasingly green and enabling technologies .
WHAT ARE THE MOST INTERESTING PROJECTS YOU HAVE BEEN WORKING ON LATELY ? In the packaging sector , and in particular in the production of A-PET trays , Point Plastic has developed and industrialised some solutions based on additives and / or proprietary masterbatch grades with the aim of obtaining the following results :
• Enhancing the oxygen barrier properties of A-PET trays by eliminating the PE / EVOH / PE lamination layer currently in use . This project
has been endorsed by Petcore Europe as a solution that does not negatively impact the European recycling stream of A-PET trays .
• Increasing the sealability of PET trays by eliminating the PE lamination layer currently in use . This solution makes the tray perfectly recyclable .
• Restoring the rheological and mechanical properties of some fractions of raw materials coming from the recycling of trays that are known to have a very low intrinsic viscosity and therefore can ’ t be directly used for the production of new A-PET trays with suitable mechanical properties .
The resources invested in these projects and the excellent results achieved at the industrial level are the best proof of the commitment of
of its energy requirement through photovoltaic panel systems , considerably reducing the use of energy from the national electricity grid . In 2021 , through an agreement with Logistic Agency , Point Plastic rationalised its logistics chain by studying better „ taking-over “ procedures for the materials to be shipped to our customers by optimising the loading of trucks . By operating according to this new logistics regime , we have been able to deliver the same amount of material with a reduction of about 18 % in the number of trips compared to the previous logistics system . Particular attention is also paid to all our additives , which are designed and produced in compliance with the Design Recycling Guidelines and can therefore be recycled easily . In
