this regard , at the end of November 2022 our Barox AROX1000 additive , destined for the production of oxygen barrier trays in mono-material A-PET , obtained the important endorsement from Petcore Europe as a material that does not negatively impact the European recycling stream of A-PET trays .
WHAT IS THE CURRENT MARKET SITUATION ? Point Plastic ‘ s reference market is very large , as the company covers very diversified product sectors and geographical regions . Thinking only about the food packaging sector , in Italy , and in Europe in general , a drop has been recorded in the total volumes processed by the industry . While it is true that some of the reasons for this trend can be traced back to the well-known problems related to the level of inflation and the conflict that is taking place on Europe ‘ s doorstep , other reasons derive from more general issues concerning the use of plastic and the impact on the ecosystem generated by poor management of end-of-life packaging . This last issue is at the heart of the actions undertaken
by the EU institutions that are accelerating , within the broader framework of the Green Deal , towards a more multi-faceted ecological transition based on circular recycling .
WHAT IS YOUR OPINION ON THE EUROPEAN PROPOSAL FOR A REGULATION ON PACKAGING AND PACKAGING WASTE ? The proposal of the EU Commission for a new packaging and packaging waste regulation is aimed at contrasting the steady growth of packaging waste through reuse and recycling , the obligation to use percentages of recycled material , clear labels for facilitating recycling and the prohibition or drastic reduction of unnecessary packaging . Today ‘ s situation , although outlined in its broader terms , is still not well defined in the details , where conflicting positions emerge between the various stakeholders and between the Member States . In my opinion , this proposal goes in the right direction of rationalising the sector , but in order to be fully accepted it will have to be very balanced and based on scientific data that offer
certainty to all operators in the sector , not least those who are willing to invest huge capitals in the new technologies necessary to implement the contents of the proposal on a large scale only if there are clear and shared rules in place .
